Jose Reina: Having medical in Naples

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain are both having medicals ahead of moves to Napoli, according to Sky Sports sources.

Reina, 30, is expected to join the Serie A club on a season-long loan after Reds manager Brendan Rodgers admitted the Spain international's wage bill was prohibitive after the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland for £9million.

The move would see the Reina link up with former Anfield boss Benitez and goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero.

Argentina forward Higuain was a reported initial transfer target for Arsenal before the player revealed Jose Mourinho was keen to bring him to Chelsea after their time together in the Spanish capital.

Benitez is in the market for a goalscorer after Edison Cavani's move to Paris St Germain for 64.5m euros (£56m) earlier this month.

Gonzalo Higuain: Real Madrid striker passes Napoli medical

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has passed a medical in Italy ahead of a £34.5m move to Napoli.
The Argentina international, 25, has been heavily linked with Arsenal this summer but is now close to a move to the Stadio San Paolo.
Napoli manager Rafael Benitez has been looking to replace Edinson Cavani, who has joined Paris St-Germain.
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has also come through a medical as he prepares to join on loan.
Higuain joined Real from River Plate in 2006 and scored 107 league goals in his seven seasons at the Bernabeu.
Napoli have already signed Real Madrid striker Jose Callejon and defender Raul Albiol, as well as winger Dries Mertens from PSV Eindhoven, this summer.

Napoli have completed the signing of Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old, who passed a medical with the ambitious Serie A club last week, has signed a reported five-year contract at the Stadio San Paolo with reports in Italy suggesting Real have received 40million euros (£34.5million) for the prolific frontman.

A statement published on Napoli's official website read: "Napoli have made the signing of Gonzalo Higuain official. The Argentinian striker arrives from Real Madrid."
