Marcello Lippi: Italy's World Cup-winning coach retires Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi has retired from football management. The 66-year-old announced his decision after winning a third straight league title with Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.
"I don't want to coach anymore, I'm too old," Lippi said. "Guangzhou Evergrande will have a new coach next season."
Lippi also won the Champions League and five Serie A titles in two spells with Italian club Juventus. Former defender Lippi also led Italy at the 2010 World Cup in his second stint as national team manager, but the defending champions were eliminated at the group stage.
Lippi says he will take over as technical director at Guangzhou, with his former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro among the favourites to replace him as coach of the 2013 Asian Champions League winners.
