Benfica midfielder Hassan Yebda will spend the rest of the season on loan at Portsmouth.
Yebda joined Benfica from Le Mans last summer and established himself as a regular squad member under Quique Sanchez Flores last term.
The 25-year-old former France youth international has a contract with the Lisbon club until 2012.
Pompey are bottom of the Premier League after losing their opening four matches against Fulham, Birmingham, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Manager Paul Hart has brought in a multitude of players this summer in an attempt to replace the stars who have left: Glen Johnson, Sylvain Distin, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.
However one them will not be former Wigan striker Amr Zaki after his club Zamalek rejected three various bids from the south coact outfit.
The Egypt striker made a huge impact during the early part of last season on loan with the Latics, scoring 10 goals before injuries and a lack of discipline led to a return to his homeland.
"Portsmouth have made an official bid for Zaki, but Zamalek said they wanted to keep him and rejected any possibility of his exit," the player's agent Nader Shawki told Filgoal.
"Portsmouth offered three different solutions for Zamalek to get Zaki. They offered £3 million or £2.5m plus 50 per cent of the next sale to buy him permanently.
"They also made a £500,000 loan offer, but Zamalek aren't ready to sell."
