Transfer news: Trabzonspor keen to sign Kolo Toure from Liverpool



Turkish club Trabzonspor insist they are confident of finalising a deal for Liverpool defender Kolo Toure.

The club had previously failed with an approach for Toure earlier in the summer, with the player unsure about the move.

But now after talks with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers,

it appears that Toure is now warming to the idea and Trabzonspor president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu claims a deal is close to beind done.

"We have agreed terms with Kolo Toure and we will bring him to the club," he told Hurriyet.

Liverpool are ready to let Toure - who joined last summer on a free transfer from Manchester City, penning a two-year deal - leave the club,

having bolstered their defensive options in recent weeks with the signing of Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

Ambitious Trabzonspor are hoping 33-year-old Toure will be joined by Turkey international striker Mevlut Erding, and they are locked in talks with Saint-Etienne over his signature.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure will stay at Anfield despite the club receiving a bid from Turkish side Trabzonspor, according to Sky Sports sources.

The 33-year-old has a year left on his current contract after signing from Manchester City on a free transfer last summer.

He made 24 appearances for the Reds last season, including 15 starts in the league as Liverpool narrowly missed out on a first league title since 1990.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said Toure - part of the Arsenal 'Invincibles' side and a two-time FA Cup winner -

was a key part of his plans for the new season, even if he was not a regular starter.

"Kolo has been an incredible player. We brought him in because he is a winner, an authentic winner," said Rodgers,

talking at a news conference on Liverpool's pre-season trip to the United States.

"He's someone who doesn't play every single week but when he does play, he plays very well. Every day of his life in training, he gives his all.

"Players like Kolo and Steven Gerrard, the older statesmen of the team, have been absolutely first class. We're hungry and ambitious; we went close last year.

"That inspires us and gives us great motivation to go on this year.

That is the beauty of this group of players - it's a very hungry group because that's what we're trying to bring in."

Trabzonspor hope to finalise the £1.5m signing of Liverpool defender Kolo Toure after president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu said:
'We have agreed terms with Kolo Toure and we will bring him to the club.'
Toure, 33, has been offered a two year deal worth £40,000 a week after tax.
However, he played in a behind closed doors game against Burnley on Monday and is considering his options.
The defender has one year left on contract but Liverpool will consider offers after the Anfield club signed Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure turns down move to Turkey to stay with Reds



Trabzonspor were keen on veteran Kolo Toure but the Ivory Coast international intends to see out the final year of his Liverpool contract.

"Trabzonspor are interested in me but I have expressed my pleasure at being a Liverpool player," Toure told Sport-Ivoire.

"Yes, it is always a possibility to join a lower league for more playing time but I am a competitor and I decided to stay at Liverpool.

"The season is full of matches in the league and Champions League and I know I have time to prove I'm still hungry but I know I will not play every game, that's for sure.

"I had talks with the coach, who clearly indicated that I was part of his plans.

"I feel good physically and at 33 years of age I am ready for any challenge.

"I continue to work hard in training to keep up the momentum and it is why the coach wants to keep me at Liverpool, because I am a fighter.

"I intend to start the season with the same goals: to enable the club to progress and to please all fans of Liverpool.

"It is a privilege to be at Liverpool. I am very happy to wear the shirt of this legendary club.

"The situation can change at any time but for the moment I am at Liverpool and I want to carry on with the club."
