Hong Kong police visit the SoL
A group of Hong Kong Police officers has visited Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light during a week of observation and development with Northumbria Police.
The officers were briefed on the advanced policing methods in operation at the stadium as well as the policing and security Central Control Unit in the South Stand, the communications hub which monitors matchdays at the Stadium of Light using 40 CCTV cameras trained right across the complex.
During a guided tour of the stadium's luxurious hospitality facilities, dressing rooms and press areas, the group also visited the Club's very own police station and holding suite beneath the South West Corner, designed to facilitate the policing of disorder during matchdays and events.
Gemma Binsley, learning and development manager at Northumbria Police, said: "The stadium tour was fantastic and gave our visitors from Hong Kong a brilliant insight into what goes on behind the scenes at a club in the most popular league in the world.
"The Premier League has some of the most advanced and carefully-implemented policing in world sports, so it is great for the police officers from Hong Kong to learn from the set-up at the Stadium of Light and hopefully implement these methods into safely policing events elsewhere."
