Swansea City withdraw from transfer chase for Tom Ince

Swansea City have withdrawn from negotiations to sign Blackpool's England Under-21 winger Tom Ince.
The player had talks at the Liberty Stadium early in the week after the club reached a loan agreement with Blackpool.
The former Liverpool youngster has been speaking to other clubs.
"After international discussions, we decided to pursue other options. He was informed last night," said a Swansea spokesman.

Manager Michael Laudrup had said the club were waiting to hear if Ince would join them from Blackpool.
Ince had had talks with the Swans, but had not indicated if he wanted to make the move to the Liberty Stadium.
"I have spoken to him, I can't say anything more," Laudrup had said.
"[But] this is a player who is in the situation and has only a few months left of his contract and he can do whatever he wants to."

Schalke chief Horst Heldt insists that Arsenal target Julian Draxler is staying with the club for the rest of the season and 'probably' beyond.

Arsenal have been looking into sealing a move for the highly-rated German international.

But whilst the Gunners are continuing to pursue him, Schalke have insisted that he will be staying put.

"I am very sure that Julian will play in the second half for us - and probably beyond," sporting director Heldt said on Thursday.

Sky sources: West Ham hopeful of signing Max Gradel from St Etienne

Sky sources understand that West Ham are "hopeful" of signing of Ivory Coast international Max Gradel.

The St Etienne winger has reportedly rejected offers from former club Leeds United and Hull City in favour of a move to Upton Park.

Gradel moved to St Etienne from Leeds in 2011 after refusing to sign a new contract but he has struggled to cement a first-team place,

making just nine league appearances in each of the last two campaigns.

Sky Sports sources understand Fulham have made renewed bid for Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley.

The Cottagers had a £1million offer to their relegation rivals turned down for the 28-year-old full-back last week.

With the player's contract expiring at the end of the season, Black Cats boss Guy Poyet is keen to keep him with the promise of a new deal in the summer.

Bardsley looked like his time at the club was coming to an end when he was frozen out by previous boss Paolo Di Canio,

but has now established himself as a key member of the side under the Uruguayan.

He scored against former club Manchester United as the Wearsiders booked their place in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City.

Bundesliga: Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones joins Besiktas on loan




Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones has joined Besiktas on loan, the Turkish Super Lig club has announced.

United States international Jones, 32, has previously played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and Blackburn,

and moves to Besiktas in a deal which gives the Turkish club the option to sign him permanently.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has previously announced Jones would have no future at the Bundesliga club

and they would not renew his contract.

We're delighted that Jermaine has found himself a new club where he can realise his sporting ambitions this year," Heldt said.

"With good performances and plenty of appearances for Besiktas, he will be able to lay the foundations for a successful involvement in the World Cup in Brazil.

"We would not have been able to offer him that here in the second half of the season.

"We would like to thank him for his efforts in a Schalke shirt over the past seven years. As soon as the opportunity arises,

we will give Jermaine a worthy send-off from Schalke.

"We wish him all the best for his professional and personal future."

Jones joined Schalke in 2007 from league rivals Eintracht Frankfurt while he spent the first half of 2011 on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.

He made a total of 172 appearances for Schalke, scoring 10 goals, the last of which he scored in Schalke's 3-0 win over Stuttgart at the end of November.

Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen sign Andres Guardado on loan from Valencia



Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Andres Guardado on loan until the end of the season from Valencia.

The 27-year-old Mexico international, who will be aiming to represent his country at this summer's World Cup,

has spent the last two years at Valencia having previously played for Deportivo La Coruna in Spain and Atlas in his homeland.

"Andres Guardado is a very experienced player," said Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Voller.

"He was a regular at Valencia and played in the Champions League for them last season, while he is an established great for his national team.

"Given his versatility, Andres fits the bill perfectly for what we wanted and we are convinced he will give our team a further boost."

The left-sided midfielder could make his debut for Leverkusen against Stuttgart on Saturday, and he admits he cannot wait to appear in the Bundesliga.

"The offer from Leverkusen was a great chance for me to start something new," he said. "The Bundesliga has a fantastic reputation in Spain.

"It's something special for me to be able to get to know this big European league.

"Bayer have been a top side in German football for many years and they have also been heavily involved in the Champions League.

"I'm therefore pleased that the transfer has worked out."
