Real Betis gain promotion to La Liga
The Andalusian club booked their spot in next season's La Liga after Celta Vigo's draw with Salamanca ensured their promotion
Real Betis have made a triumphant return to La Liga on their second attempt following Celta Vigo's 1-1 away draw with Salamanca on Thursday.
The result combined with Betis' 3-1 victory against Tenerife on Wednesday evening sees the club promoted from Liga Adelante, the first team to do so this season.
There are still four games remaining in the league but Betis, who are top currently hold a 13 point lead over third-placed Granada with only 12 points up for grabs.
Promotion is testament to coach Pepe Mel who took over the club last summer and has guided the Seville-based club to an impressive 23 league wins from 38 games so far this season.
Despite achieving a reasonable 42 points, Betis were relegated in the 2008-09 season on an inferior head-to-head record with Getafe.
Betis came close to promotion in the play-off system last season but ultimately missed out to Levante.
The club have one La Liga title to their name, winning the league back in 1935.
