Trezeguet double seals promotion for River PlateThe former France international was unstoppable for the Millo as they took down Almirante Brown to return to the top flight, where they will be joined by Quilmes
Two second-half goals from River Plate star David Trezeguet left fans of the Argentine giants jubilant, as they celebrated winning the Nacional B championship on an agonising last day of the season thanks to a 2-0 victory over Almirante Brown. The former Juventus and Monaco sharpshooter opened the scoring for the Millo four minutes after the break with an expertly-executed volley on the left. A win against Almirante, coached by Boca favourite Bias Giunta, would be enough to guarantee a return to the Primera A after a year's absence following 2011's historic relegation.
Trezeguet netted his 13th goal of the season late in the second period to confirm three points for Matias Almeyda's side, and their promotion. They finish top of the pile one point clear of Quilmes, who downed Guillermo Brown 2-0 to secure the last automatic promotion place, and cap a fantastic end to the season which saw the Cerveceros win six of their last eight encounters.
While River and Quilmes celebrate, fans of Rosario Central and Instituto prepare for an agonising play-off against Primera A opposition. Central were defeated 3-2 by Desamparados to end their chances of going up automatically, while the Cordoba institution collapsed 3-0 at the hands of Ferro and were leapfrogged by Quilmes.
