Ruud Van Nistelrooy On Real Madrid Return: 'I Need A Good Weekend To Mull It Over'
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take the rest of this weekend to decide whether he wishes to return to Real Madrid.Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was delighted with his team's performance following Saturday's 1-0 Bundesliga victory over Schalke.
"We have won very deservedly," he told ZDF. "It was not good, but we still played better [than Schalke]. We did not play well on the counter, otherwise we would have won this 3-0 or 4-0."
The 34-year old veteran, who over the past 24 hours has been heavily linked with a return to Real Madrid, discussed the possibility of a switch.
"I need a good weekend to mull it over. It is also not easy for me, it is not any old team who is coming in for me."Word from Germany was that the striker threatened to never play for Hamburg again if the club were to deny him a transfer. His performance against Schalke suggests that he has since repaired relations with the Bundesliga club.
At half-time during the match, HSV sporting director Bastian Reinhardt told Sky, "There is only one trend: he stays!"Of course it is always an honour for a player when a request from Real Madrid comes. But we didn't get any offer yet and also the timing, being so close to the start of the second half of the season, is not perfect, as you can imagine.
"The player knows that there is an request, but the player also knows that he has a contract."
