Four Champions League group-stage places will be guaranteed to LaLiga, as well as to three of Europe's other top leagues, after UEFA delayed possible plans for a continental super league.
The discussions will continue regarding forming a new competition ahead of December 2017, which would likely not be put into action under 2021, with the Champions League continuing until then.
Fernando Gomes, president of the European Club Association, has been crucial in slowing the process towards the super league, with only Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United taking part in negotiating such changes.
The new format of the Champions League will guarantee the top four countries in the UEFA rankings four teams in the competition's group stages, without the need for play-off ties.
At the moment, those four nations in question would be Spain, England, Germany and Italy.
In its final stages, the Champions League would then have 32 teams which are divided into eight groups, with the fifth and sixth nations in the UEFA rankings getting two teams automatic qualification and an additional one who must play in the preliminary rounds.
