Marco Reus signs contract extension with Borussia Dortmund Borussia Dortmund have announced they have extended the contract of forward Marco Reus until 2023. “I am happy and proud to announce that I’ll continue playing with Borussia. Dortmund is my home, BVB is my club. As a kid I dreamed of playing in black and yellow, and I’d like this this extension to be a clear sign for the future,” the 28-year-old declared after putting pen to paper. “This renewal is a ‘thank you’ to our fantastic fans, who have always stood by me. The club has supported me in tough times, so it was important for me to thank them,” Reus continued. A Dortmund youth product, Reus had spells at Rot Weiss Ahlen and Borussia Mönchengladbach before re-joining BVB in 2012. Since then he has had a hand in over 100 Bundesliga goals for the club, scoring 92 times in all competitions and putting Borussia 1-0 ahead on an incredible 39 occasions.
He sustained that injury in the final of last season’s DFB Cup, which Dortmund still went on to win against Eintracht Frankfurt – Borussia’s opponents this weekend. That trophy was the first of Reus’ career at Dortmund.
“Marco makes every team better,” said sporting director Michael Zorc. “He’s the man for those important moments, especially with important goals. He’s a defining face of our club.”
“We’re really pleased Marco has decided to sign a long-term contract with the club despite numerous offers from around the world,” said BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. “I have a special relationship with him, and he’s shown the utmost degree of dedication to this club, of which we’re very proud."
