Schalke Set To Sign Japanese International Atsuto Uchida - Report
The Kashima Antlers star appears to be on his way to the Bundesliga...
Ambitious Bundesliga outfit Schalke are on the verge of signing Japanese international Atsuto Uchida from Kashima Antlers, according to a report in Sports Houchi.
The Gelsenkirchen side are in the market for a new right-sided defender due to the ongoing uncertainty about current full-back Rafinha, and Schalke reportedly see Uchida as the perfect replacement.
The 22-year-old Uchida has developed into one of the star players at Kashima since making his first team debut in March 2006. He has been capped at senior level several times and is continually being linked with a move to Europe.
Uchida's current contract with Antlers is due to expire in the summer of 2013, but the Japanese side could be tempted to cash in on the highly rated defender if an offer in the region of ?1 million comes in.
Schalke have yet to react to the transfer rumour, but the report suggests that the transfer could be a done deal by the end of the week.
