England boss Capello will restore fit-again Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry to the centre of the team alongside Chelsea's Frank Lampard.
That will see skipper Steven Gerrard moving to the left as part of the second attacking line of three behind Emile Heskey at Cape Town's Green Point Stadium.
Capello believes that the return of Barry will give Lampard more security when he makes his runs from deep, while Gerrard's starting position also free him of too many defensive responsibilities.
The tactical system brought England 34 goals in their 10 qualifying games, with Gerrard, Lampard and Wayne Rooney sharing 16 between them.
Rooney, of course scored nine of those goals, an England record for a single qualifying campaign, although he has not found the net for the Three Lions since completing the 5-1 thrashing of Croatia in September which sealed Capello's side's place in South Africa.
The England boss, still to confirm his goalkeeper in the wake of Robert Green's blunder against the USA - although the West Ham man remains favourite to stay as No 1 - believes the reversion to the tried and trusted formation will ensure Rooney gets more support and does not have to wander in search of the ball.
