Terry fit for cup final
Chelsea skipper John Terry has confirmed that he is '100 per cent' fit for the FA Cup final on Saturday.
The captain's participation at the Wembley showpiece - as well as this summer's World Cup - was thrown into doubt after he suffered a knock in training on Wednesday.
First reports suggested that Terry had broken a metatarsal as he left Chelsea's Cobham training ground wearing a protective boot on his foot but a hospital scan revealed no break and he was cleared to play against Portsmouth on 15th May.
The 29-year-old centre-half has since come through Thursday's final training session at Cobham prior to the FA Cup final, with the Blues going for a historic double.
Okay
He said after training on Thursday: "Its okay. I go my scan results yesterday and all fine, no break, no ligament damage, just a bit of bruising on the inside of the foot but I've done the full training session today and I'm fine for the weekend."
Terry confirmed there was no gamble in playing him on Saturday, saying: "No (gamble) nothing at all. I've come out, I've done the full sess with the players today and I'm fully fit and raring to go."
Asked if it crossed his mind that he could be missing both the cup final and World Cup when he first suffered the injury, he replied: "Yes, I came straight in and saw the doctor and said I think I need a scan just in case, it was aching and throbbing a little bit but once we had the scan, it was a couple of hours after that we got the results and a big relief for myself of course."
He confirmed he did not feel a twinge in training on Thursday.
Totally fine
"Once I was out there striking the ball everything was totally fine," he said.
Regarding the accident itself, Terry added: "Daniel Sturridge just fell awkwardly on me, my foot was caught underneath me and at the time I thought I had done something quite bad, which is why I left the training field and come into speak to the doctor.
"But thankfully all okay."
Looking ahead to the Portsmouth clash, he added: "On a football club level, I'm looking forward to the weekend and I would have been gutted to have missed that, let alone the World Cup.
"But thankfully I am fine and looking forward to the game."
