Emre Can receives staggering sign on fee after leaving Liverpool to join JuventusEmre Can rejected Liverpool's offer of a new deal in favour of making the move to Italy
Emre Can will pocket an eye-watering £14million signing-on fee after completing his free transfer from Liverpool to Juventus. The Germany international penned a four-year contract with the Serie A champions after undergoing a medical in Turin.
Can rejected Liverpool's offer of a new deal in favour of making the move to Italy.
The 24-year-old made the last of his 167 appearances for the Reds in last month's Champions League final in Kiev.
A statement from Juventus read: “Emre Can has signed with the Bianconeri to officially join the club on July 1 2018 on a four-year deal.
“As a result of the signature of the agreement, Juventus will incur additional costs of 16 million euros (£14million) to be paid over the next two financial years.”That figure - on top of wages of around £4million per season – is believed to be his signing-on fee.Publicly, Jurgen Klopp repeatedly stated last term that he still hoped Can would remain at Anfield, but privately, the Liverpool boss has been planning for his exit for the past 12 months.
When Liverpool rejected an approach from Juventus last summer, Klopp decided that the Reds would be better off losing Can for nothing 12 months later than taking the money due to the lack of available replacements.
Contract talks broke down over Can's demands for a big wage increase and the inclusion of a release clause. He arrived at Anfield in 2014 after Liverpool triggered a clause in his contract at Bayer Leverkusen which meant a foreign club could buy him for just £10million.
