Tentative NBA deal reached

NEW YORK -- The NBA owners and players have reached a tentative agreement to end the lockout.

"We have reached a tentative understanding that is subject to a variety of approvals and very complex machinations," NBA comissioner David Stern said. "But we're optimistic that will all come to pass and the NBA season will begin on December 25, Christmas Day."

"We're very pleased that we've come this far. We're optimistic it will hold and we'll have ourselves an NBA season."

After a secret meeting earlier this week, the sides met for more than 15 hours Friday, working to try to save the season. Under the deal, a 66-game season would begin on Christmas.

This handshake deal still must be ratified by both owners and players.

•封館期間， NBA 球隊與球員不能私下傾談或簽訂任何形式的合約，球員不能使用所有球隊設施。如球隊仍未支付 10/11 年球季薪金，球員仍舊會獲發薪，但停止其他福利（如保險）；而新秀未簽約，均不獲人工。

•勞資雙方主要分歧是班主要求改變球員分配佣金比例。按照舊的集體談判協議，球員可獲 57% 有關籃球的收益；但聯盟稱上季 30 隊合共虧損 3 億美元（約 23.3 億港元），有 22 隊錄得虧蝕。新建議比例為 50%，但球員工會認為不可接受。

•勞資雙方未定下次會談時間表。 98 年 7 月談判破裂，導致封館後，雙方直至 8 月亦沒有會面。今次雙方在兩周內進行了 3 次談判，會面時間僅約 12 小時而已。

•封館並不代表下季一定「玩完」。根據以往兩次封館經驗，如在 9 月底前解決，球季就可繼續。如 95 年 9 月初解決了分歧，當年封館 74 日，球季無影響。至於 98 年球季 9 月底仍未解決，終宣佈季前賽取消，在封館 191 日後，於 99 年 1 月才解封，馬刺在「縮水」球季奪冠。

如在 9 月底前解決，球季就可繼續。
