Spanish midfielder on brink of move to Serie A outfit



Liverpool have agreed a £6million deal with Lazio for midfielder Luis Alberto.

The Reds will pocket £4.3million up front with a further £1.7million to potentially follow in add-ons which would be triggered by European qualification.

Negotiations with the Serie A outfit were concluded on Monday afternoon with Liverpool also securing a 30% sell-on clause.

Alberto, who was told by Jurgen Klopp he was surplus to requirements, will now travel to Rome to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The 23-year-old Spaniard leaves Liverpool three years after arriving from Sevilla for £6.8million.

He made 12 appearances for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers in the 2013/14 season but struggled to handle the physical demands of Premier League football.

He spent the past two campaigns on loan at Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna in his homeland. Alberto had been linked with a return to Sevilla but that move fell through last month after the clubs failed to agree a fee.

The deal with Lazio - coupled with the loan fee from Deportivo last season - means that Liverpool will effectively recoup what they paid for Alberto in the summer of 2013.
