Leicester City legend Esteban Cambiasso retires to start coaching careerThe 37-year-old became a hero at Leicester as he helped them to Premier League survival in the Great Escape season
Esteban Cambiasso has called an end to his professional playing career after a remarkable 21 years. Cambiasso won over the hearts of Leicester City fans after spending the Great Escape season at the King Power Stadium and was pivotal in the side’s incredible survival.
According to reports in his native Argentina, Cambiasso has now called time on his playing career to focus on starting life as a coach. The Argentine midfielder, now 37, joined City on a free transfer in 2014 after spending 10 years at Italian heavyweights Inter Milan, scoring five goals in his 31 appearances including in the famous 5-3 win over Manchester United.
Cambiasso left the King Power Stadium the following summer, bowing out in style with a goal in the 5-1 dismantling of Queens Park Rangers in his final game, before joining Greek side Olympiacos for two seasons.
After graduating from the Real Madrid youth set up, he returned to his native Argentina in 1998 to play for Independiente and then River Plate before returning to the Bernabeu in 2002.
Despite winning a host of trophies at club level, Cambiasso was unable to add a major international trophy to his cabinet, but did score THAT goal in the 2006 World Cup against Serbia and Montenegro.
‘Cuchu’ demonstrated his leadership qualities during his time on Filbert Way so it will come as no surprise that he has already completed his coaching badges with a view to move into the management side of football.
He’s magic, you know.
