Newcastle are in advanced discussions with Marseille over winger Florian Thauvin, according to Sky sources. It is understood the Magpies have been watching the 22-year-old attacker for some time and he has been one of their main summer targets.
Thauvin is valued at around £13m by his current French Ligue 1 club, but it is believed talks are centering around the possiblity of including Remy Cabella going the other way as part of the deal.
Newspapers reported earlier this year that Tottenham were another club interested in Thauvin, with the Daily Mail even claiming talks had been had between the club.
But Sky sources understand Spurs were not interested in the former France U21 international at any time.
Thauvin spent his youth career with four clubs; Ingre, Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, his hometown club Orleans and then Grenoble, where he broke into the first-team at 17.
He spent two years with Bastia before moving to the French top flight with Lille in January 2013, but he was loaned straight back Bastia for the rest of the season.
In the summer of 2013 he then moved to Marseille having never made an appearance for Lille, and subsequently scored 14 goals in 76 appearances.
