Defoe fears dream is fading
Tottenham's Jermain Defoe fears his dream of playing in the World Cup finals may be over.
Sven Goran Eriksson has already admitted that he is concerned by the striker's lack of first-team football as he faces a race against time to impress the England boss.
Defoe is still a candidate for a place in the squad, although Darren Bent, Dean Ashton, and James Beattie are also pressing strongly for the final striking berth.
"I have been thinking about which strikers will be going to the World Cup and have tried to work out all the options," he said.
"I know the manager has said he wants to see more of me and, hopefully, I can get some more games for Spurs before the end of the season.
"I am aware that if I am sat on the bench and not playing, Mr Eriksson can't see me and assess my form.
"But he knows what I can do and I am confident enough in my own ability to believe that when I play I will score goals and contribute to the team's success."
He added: "I was back in the Spurs team last week and we won 2-0 at Birmingham. I didn't score but I was involved in the first goal and took a lot of encouragement from that."
i hope defoe+beattie
i guess defoe+bent
