West Ham have signed Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old had been linked with several Premier League clubs, but opted for the Hammers.
"I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can prove my worth because it is an important year for me," Jenkinson said.
The right-back has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal following the recent signings of full-backs Mathieu Debuchy, 29, and Calum Chambers, 19.
France international Debuchy joined from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee in July and youngster Chambers moved from Southampton, for £16m, earlier this week.
Jenkinson, who has won one England cap, played 22 games in all competitions for the Gunners last season.
He said: "I was flattered to have a lot of options but, deep down, if I was being honest with myself West Ham was always the place I wanted to go to."
The former Charlton Athletic player becomes West Ham's sixth new player,
following the signing of Ecuador striker Enner Valencia from Pachuca, midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton, striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield,
Anderlecht's Senegal international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and Ipswich full-back Aaron Cresswell.

West Ham have targeted a move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson as Sam Allardyce continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.

The Hammers have already signed four players this summer and on Thursday announced they had agreed a deal for Ecuador's World Cup star Enner Valencia.

Sam Allardyce remains keen to strengthen his defence,

despite the arrival of left-back Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich, and sources have confirmed that Jenkinson is one target “of many” for the club.

Arsenal acquired Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle earlier this week and have also targeted a loan move for Atletico Madrid right-back Javi Manquillo,

meaning Jenkinson will be allowed to leave on a short-term deal should Manquillo arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

The Irons are open to signing Jenkinson on a permanent deal but a short-term move appears more likely, given the player's age and potential.

Allardyce is keen to retain a British core at Upton Park and is also determined to drive the average age of the squad down, with the 22-year-old fitting the new-look recruitment profile at the club.

West Ham retain an interest in Manchester City right-back Micah Richards –

who has fallen out of favour at the Premier League champions – while Guy Demel looks set to leave Upton Park.

Leicester have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old, while his former club Hamburg are also monitoring his situation ahead of a possible summer bid.

Sky Sports understands four Premier League clubs are battling it out to sign Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on loan.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be open to the idea of loaning out Jenkinson next season so that he can play regular first-team football.

Jenkinson is expected to find his first-team opportunities limited at Arsenal following the signing of Mathieu Debuchy and the imminent arrival of Calum Chambers at Arsenal.

Chambers is set to arrive from Southampton with the 19-year-old right-back viewed as a possible central defender in the future by Arsenal.

England international Jenkinson remains highly regarded at the Emirates, but Wenger feels he would be best served by going out on loan to another Premier League club next season to continue his development so that he is ready to stake his claim for a regular spot in the Arsenal side upon his return.

There is no shortage of suitors for Jenkinson, with West Ham, Swansea, Sunderland and Hull all interested in taking the former Charlton man on loan.

The quartet are ready to offer Jenkinson, who made 22 appearances last season, regular first-team football next term as they look to bolster their defensive options.

Jenkinson sees his long-term future at Arsenal, but knows the opportunity of first-team football in the Premier League next season will boost his chances of reclaiming his place back in the England squad.

Hull City have agreed a £3 million deal with Arsenal for defender Carl Jenkinson, Goal understands.

The 22-year-old has been told he has no future at the Emirates Stadium, with Mathieu Debuchy set to be first choice right-back following his arrival from Newcastle,

while Southampton defender Calum Chambers is on the verge of completing a switch to north London.

Goal understands that West Ham are Jenkinson's preferred destination

and Sam Allardyce's side could yet hijack the deal if they come up with the cash in the next couple of days.

Sunderland and Swansea are also interested but it is Hull that are the frontrunners for the England Under-21 defender ahead

of the start of their Europa League campaign, which kicks off on Thursday against Slovakian minnows FK Dukla Trencin.

Jenkinson, who made his England debut in 2012 but has struggled to become a regular in Arsene Wenger's first-team set-up at Arsenal,

is now set to discuss personal terms with the east Yorkshire outfit, with Steve Bruce confident of tying up a deal within the next 48 hours.

The former Charlton Athletic defender will be the Tigers' fourth signing of the summer window,

with Jake Livermore, Robert Snodgrass and Tom Ince having all arrived ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.
