Ashley has I understand been trying to sell the club informally for the past 3 to 4 months. This approach has failed.
Asking price was set between £350m to £400m. However, investors aware this is a yo-yo club and have been wary of that valuation.
Difficulty he faces is Chinese investment tighter due to government pressure + political instability in Mid East is causing capital issues.
American buyer / consortium may be more likely option but not at anywhere close to £400m. Circa £200m or lower seems more probable.
Throw in on-going HMRC investigation + easy to see why Ashley has not been able to find a viable buyer thus far. Hence, for sale sign is up.
