Neymar banned for rest of Copa America after Colombia red card



Neymar has been banned for the rest of the Copa America following his red card in Brazil's match against Colombia.

A disciplinary panel of the South American confederation ruled on Friday that he must sit out four games for violent conduct after the sending off, ruling him out of the remainder of the competition even if Brazil reach the final.

In addition to his ban, the 23-year-old was also fined $10,000. Brazil have the right to appeal the ruling.

The Barcelona forward picked up a red card after kicking the ball at Colombia's Pablo Armero after the final whistle in Colombia's 1-0 victory over Brazil on Wednesday. He also appeared to headbutt Jeison Murillo.

Brazil play their final group game on Sunday against Venezuela. If they advance to the knockout rounds they could only play a maximum of three more games.

Brazil are tied on points with Colombia, Venezuela and Peru heading into the last group game.

尼馬作出魯莽行為後，連日來都被媒體及名宿責難，其中朗拿度指其行為不能接受。主帥鄧加則表示已準備一套缺少尼馬的陣法，似早料到後者會受重罰。

無巧不成話，尼馬在去年世界盃8強對哥倫比亞時，被敵將辛尼加施以膝撞導致背脊骨裂，被逼退出比賽，沒想到連續兩個大賽都是對同一對手後告別。此外，同樣在衝突中失控的哥倫比亞球員卡路士巴卡，則被罰停賽兩場。

Brazil to appeal against Neymar's Copa America ban



Brazil have confirmed they will appeal against the four-game suspension which has ruled their talisman and Barcelona star Neymar out of the rest of Copa America.

Neymar was banned for headbutting after the final whistle in Brazil's 1-0 midweek defeat to Colombia and they have a maximum of four games left in the tournament if they are to reach the final.

The Brazil captain was initially banned for one game after being sent-off for kicking the ball at Colombia's Pablo Armero. The incident sparked a mass brawl and Neymar headbutted another opposition player for which he received the extra sanction.

In addition to his ban a South American confederation disciplinary panel also fined the 23-year-old $10,000 (£8,800).

Whatever happens with the appeal, Liverpool playmaker Phillipe Coutinho will play in Neymar's place against Venezuela in Chile on Sunday.

Brazil coach Dunga said: "We don't want anything in our favour, we don't want anything against us, we just want it to be balanced. There should just be an equal judgement for everyone in the tournament."

Dunga said his team was seeking only "what's fair".

Group C is finely balanced with Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela all level on one win and one defeat so far.

"Neymar is a football personality and the punishment was very big. Of course we all love football and we want to see him on the pitch, not just Neymar but (Alexis) Sanchez, (Lionel) Messi, (Angel) di Maria," Dunga added.
