Jaap Stam has agreed a deal to become Reading's next manager, Sky sources understand.

The former Netherlands defender, most recently head coach of Ajax's U21 and Academy teams, has just received his UEFA Pro Licence.

Sky SportsNews HQ revealed last month that talks were underway between Stam and the Sky Bet Championship club, and now understand a two-year deal has been agreed.

The link with Stam came soon after Reading parted company with Brian McDermott, whose return to the Madejski Stadium proved a disappointment - they failed to win any of their last seven games and finished the season in a lowly 17th.

Stam is expected to be joined at Reading by Andries Uldrink and Said Bakkati, two coaches he worked with when managing the reserve team at Ajax.

The 43-year-old spent time as interim coach and assistant manager at FC Zwolle before moving to Ajax, where he had ended his playing career in 2007.

Stam, who spent parts of four seasons with Manchester United, was back at Old Trafford on Sunday as part of the Soccer Aid charity match. He limped off injured during the first half of England's win over the Rest of the World.

Jaap Stam: Reading to appoint ex-Manchester United star as manager

Reading are set to name ex-Manchester United and Netherlands defender Jaap Stam as their new manager.

The 43-year-old will take over from Brian McDermott at the Championship club after his second spell in charge of the Royals lasted just six months.

A coach at Ajax last season, he had been favourite to succeed McDermott.

Stam, part of United's 1998-99 treble-winning side during his three years at Old Trafford, is set to be unveiled at a press conference on Monday.

He will become the club's first non-British manager when he takes charge of a Reading side who finished 17th in the Championship last season.

史譚掛靴後在荷甲傳統勁旅阿積士的青訓系統工作，並執教阿積士U21代表隊；首個職業球會一隊教頭工作，令人意外地為英冠球會效力。43歲的史譚對此表示：「雷丁與我同樣具野心，並希望重返英超。但願我們於各方配合下，能夠邁向該處。」

職業生涯也曾效力燕豪芬、拉素、AC米蘭、阿積士等著名球會的史譚又謂：「大家都知道英冠球隊非常有競爭力，這個聯賽並不容易應付，但我們會十分努力工作。」

雷丁會方聲明指出，史譚很大機會邀請在阿積士共事的荷蘭同胞烏達連基及巴卡迪加入其教練團。至於史堤芬列特及比辛兩名原教練團隊成員，亦會留低協助史譚在英冠大展拳腳。
