Premier League: Brendan Rodgers, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez win Barclays awards



Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for March, with Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard jointly winning the Player of the Month award.

It is the second time this season Rodgers has won the award - he also collected it back in August.

Liverpool won all five of their Premier League matches in March to put themselves firmly in the hunt for the title.

They beat Manchester United 3-0, Cardiff City 6-3, Southampton 3-0, Tottenham 4-0 and Sunderland 2-1.

Liverpool captain Gerrard and striker Suarez received the same amount of votes.

Gerrard, who wins the sixth Player of the Month award of his career, scored four goals in March, whilst Suarez scored six. Suarez also won the award in December.

Rodgers said: "It's not an individual award really - all our successes are purely down to a team effort. We receive it gratefully.

We've been on a wonderful run as a team and over the course of March we've had some outstanding fixtures and results.

"We are very honoured and humble to receive it. Up until now we've been performing really well and we've been working really hard. Our results are demonstrating that the improvements are taking place.

"We've got a really exciting group of young players here that are improving all the time and the senior players have been outstanding for me.

"They have really been wanting to take on board new concepts and ideas and they've been taking that on the field and performing magnificently well.

"So for us at this point our objective is still to make sure we qualify for the Champions League - that objective hasn't changed and that isn't secured yet.

"So at this moment in time the concentration is just on the performance and the next game."

Liverpool up for March Awards

Brendan Rodgers, Roberto Martinez, Manuel Pellegrini and Mark Hughes have all been nominated for the Premier League's Manager of the Month award for March.
Rodgers guided Liverpool to five successive victories last month as they collected maximum points, which also included an impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Martinez looks to be Rodgers' main rival for the gong, with his Everton side having also won all five of their league games in March to keep the Goodison Park club in the hunt for a top-four finish.
Pellegrini's Manchester City team won three and drew the other of their four top-flight games. Like Liverpool, City also recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory away to United.
Stoke boss Hughes had a good March as well, with his Potters side winning four and drawing the other of their games as they continued to close in on their highest Premier League points tally.

The Player of the Month award is dominated by strikers with Luis Suarez, Jay Rodriguez and Romelu Lukaku all in the running, alongside midfielder Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool skipper Gerrard scored four goals in March, including two penalties in the Reds' win at Old Trafford.
His team-mate Suarez hit six goals for the Reds, including a hat-trick in the 5-3 victory away to Cardiff.
Rodriguez hit five goals in five games for Southampton, while Lukaku was on target three times for Everton.
The winner of the awards will be announced on Sky Sports News from 10am on Friday morning.
