Swansea have been rebuffed in an initial enquiry for Espanyol defender Hector Moreno. Manager Michael Laudrup is keen on the Mexico international as a possible replacement for Ashley Williams. Laudrup expects Williams to leave before the season starts with Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool interested but reluctant to pay the asking price of £12m.Hector Moreno of Swansea and Espanyol could become Michael Laudrup's latest recruit
The 25-year-old Moreno played in the last World Cup for Mexico and has amassed 46 caps for his country. It is understood Swansea are willing to offer around £5m but Espanyol value him higher.
Moreno caught Laudrup's eye as a ball-playing defender in European leagues having spent four years at AZ Alkmaar and claiming a league title in Holland before heading to La Liga. He signed for Espanyol in 2011 and was their player of the season in his first campaign.
Swansea are also still waiting on Wilfried Bony being granted a work permit, forcing him to train with former employers Vitesse Arnhem.
Brighton, meanwhile, are keen on Swansea midfielder Kemy Agustien.
