Transfer news: Xherdan Shaqiri joins Inter Milan from Bayern Munich

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Inter announced the Switzerland international had signed a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2019.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to wish Shaqiri a very warm welcome.

We would also like to thank FC Bayern Munich and the FIGC (the Italian Football Federation) for their help in completing the deal positively and quickly," an Inter statement read.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to the English Premier League, but has opted for Serie A, with Roberto Mancini's Inter lying 11th in the standings.

Shaqiri joined Bayern from Basel in 2012 and won two Bundesliga medals and the 2013 Champions League with the German club, but he struggled to establish himself in the first team.

Transfer news: Liverpool interested in deal for Bayern Munich's Xheridan Shaqiri



Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Xheridan Shaqiri, according to Sky sources.

The Reds are believed to want a deal for the 23-year-old to move to Anfield in the summer and are happy for him to join Inter Milan, who are also interested, on loan until the end of the season.

Shaqiri, 23, has struggled to establish himself in Bayern’s first team since a transfer from Basel in 2012, making just 26 league starts in over two years.

The Switzerland international, who has 41 caps, impressed at the World Cup last summer but has started in just three Bundesliga matches this season.

Shaqiri can play on either wing, similar to current Liverpool star Adam Lallana, and would offer Inter a strong short-term solution to their struggles in 11th place in Serie A.

Sky Sports football expert Ray Parlour, speaking on the Morning View, said: “It’s a move that he would be very interested in because he is not playing on a regular basis.

“He is only 5’6” and Liverpool have a lot small players already, but he has potential and at 23 he is already very experienced for his age. He would be a good signing.

“He has played with some top quality players. He always wants the ball, can go past players. Tracking back is probably not his game, but he can create chances.

“With his calibre at being at Bayern, Liverpool have to have a serious look at him.”

Here is Inter’s latest offer for Shaqiri

We're reaching the final stretch of the Xherdan Shaqiri transfer saga.

Late last night another phone call between Inter and Bayern Munich took place where the Nerazzurri presented the Bavarians with their official offer:
? 2 million for a loan, ? 12 million to be paid in June and another ? 1 million to be paid if Inter qualify for the Champions League this season.

An offer which is very close to the ? 15 million asked by the Germans.
If Bayern were to respond in a positive manner, Inter Directors will fly to Munich to finalize the deal.

There is still stiff competition from Liverpool, however Inter's offer could be decisive to gift Mancini the player he wants.
