Liverpool agree fee for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet


Liverpool have agreed a fee in excess of £11m with Sunderland for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to Sky sources.


Thetwo clubs are understood to have reached an agreement after protracteddiscussions and the Belgium international could now undergo a medicaland discuss personal terms next week.


Mignolet, who moved to the Stadium of Light from Belgian sideSint-Truiden three years ago for £2m, still has two years remaining onhis contract but Sunderland appear to have found it too hard to resistLiverpool's overtures.


A deal will increase speculation over the future of the Reds' established No 1, Pepe Reina.


The Spaniard has been linked with a summer return to Barcelona buthas three years left on his own contract and has not yet been thesubject of any approach.

    Liverpool are set to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for £9m next week.



    The Belgium international is expected on Merseyside inthe next few days to undergo a medical and complete the formalities ofthe move.



    The 24-year-old has played 101 games sincejoining from Belgian club Sint-Truidenfor £2m in June 2010.



    He kept 11 clean sheets in 40 appearances last season as the Black Cats narrowly avoided the drop.



    Liverpool's current first-choice keeper Pepe Reina, 30, has beenlinked with a returnto Spanish champions Barcelona, where he started his career.



    The Reds have already agreed to sign 32-year-oldManchester City defender Kolo Toureon a free transfer andCelta Vigo striker Iago Aspas, 25,for £7m.



Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto, 20,is close to joining the Reds, while manager Brendan Rodgers is alsotracking highly-rated Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori, 20, and24-year-oldArmenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryanfrom Shakhtar Donetsk.
