Former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has moved to Lisbon to join Sporting after being released by Fiorentina. The 31-year-old was drafted in by the Reds in 2009 for £17million from Roma as Xabi Alonso’s replacement but endured a injury-ridden season at Anfield and was loaned out to first Juventus then Milan before heading to Tuscany on a free transfer in 2012.
Aquilani - who has 38 caps for Italy and has scored five international goals - played a total of 26 games for Liverpool, netting twice.
He insists that he has no regrets over joining Liverpool and said: “I would do it all over again.
“I’d had a difficult year with Roma and had been out a long time injured. If I could go back in time, maybe I would have done things a little differently contractually.”
His new club Sporting made a move for Aquilani, whose contract was not renewed by Sporting, after failing to secure the signature of Kevin Prince Boateng.
It is reportedly a three-year contract worth 2million Euros per season. Aquilani had been considering Sampdoria and a move to Major League Soccer. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-liverpool-fc-midfielder-alberto-9807480
