Poulsen future still unclear

Christian Poulsen still does not know if he has a future at Liverpool, according to his representative.

The Denmark international proved to be a major disappointment in his first season at Anfield, having been signed by former manager Roy Hodgson last summer.

Kenny Dalglish only used Poulsen on six occasions and the 31-year-old did not play again after the 1-0 defeat at Braga in the Europa League in early March.

This, combined with the summer signings of midfielders Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, has been taken as an indication of Liverpool's desire to offload the former Juventus man.

Travel

But Poulsen's representative, Jorn Bonnesen, claims he and his client are in the dark, as he told Onside.dk when asked if they knew about Liverpool's plans: "No, we do not.

"Now we wait and see what happens."

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has announced that, following the signings of Henderson and Adam, attention will now turn to selling unwanted members of the squad.

But Dalglish and his players are due to fly to the Far East on Sunday to begin a pre-season tour and Poulsen is expected to travel.

Liverpool announced earlier on Friday that teenage defender John Flanagan has signed a contract extension.

Sven could move for Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves could be handed a chance to resurrect his career by Sven Goran Eriksson.

Hargreaves was released by Manchester United a week ago after suffering four years of injury hell at Old Trafford which saw him make just 28 starts for the club, and play only nine minutes in the last two seasons.

The former Bayern Munich player has recently uploaded 18 video clips to You Tube to try and prove he is fit ahead of the new season. And that seems to be enough for Leicester City boss Eriksson to give Hargreaves the opportunity to win a contract at the Championship club.

It was Eriksson who persuaded Canada-born Hargreaves to choose England for his international career, with the player also eligible to play for his homeland, Germany and Wales. Hargreaves, who has 42 England caps, could join Eriksson's bid to lead the Foxes back into the Championship.

''I saw his videos," Eriksson was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. "And if he wants to come here I will open the door and stand and wait for him in the door.

''He's been very unlucky in recent years, but if he's close to what he was, he is a fantastic football player. I haven't spoken to him for a while - maybe I should.

"It's difficult to know what he wants to do when he's been away for a long time.''

Valencia in talks over Mata

Valencia winger Juan Mata is believed to be the subject of a £15 million bid from Arsenal, but it is understood the Spaniard is not being groomed as a replacement for Samir Nasri.

Mata, 23, has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger with his performances in La Liga and in the triumphant Under-21 side at the recent European Championships. It is believed that Wenger hopes the Spain international's capture is seen as a signal of intent by Nasri that the club is serious about winning silverware this season.

Valencia, meanwhile, have insisted that the player is not for sale, but Mata's father, Juan Senior, suggested negotiations between the two clubs have begun regarding a transfer fee.

"There have been calls from foreign clubs but now the decision rests with Valencia. [Juan] is on his holidays," he said in the Mirror newspaper.

The Gunners are desperate to keep hold of Nasri, who is booked to fly with the team to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, contrary to recent reports. The Frenchman has been offered a new £90,000-a-week contract to stay at the Emirates amid interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Inter Milan.

Arsenal have reportedly told United that Nasri will not be sold, even at the suggested price of £20 million. The 24-year-old has one-year remaining on his current deal, and may opt to see out his contract with the London club before making any decision on his future.

Subject to work permits being granted, Ivory Coast forward Gervinho is expected to make the trip for Arsenal's two-match tour to Malaysia and China, featuring games against a Malaysia XI and Hangzhou Greentown. The Gunners then return home ahead of a friendly match away to FC Cologne on July 23.

Jovanovic meets with Anderlecht
Serbian holds talks in bid to end Anfield nightmare

Milan Jovanovic has revealed that he has met with Anderlecht officials to discuss his transfer from Liverpool.

The former Standard Liege forward has already been told that he can leave Anfield for free after just one year, with the Premier League club reportedly prepared to pay off his £60,000-a-week wages.

It is understood a January approach from Wolfsburg was turned down, but FC Brugge and Anderlecht are now thought to have offered Jovanovic a route out of Liverpool, where he has proved a failure under both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish.

Rafa Benitez, who preceded Hodgson, agreed the deal to sign the Serbian, but he made just five appearances in the Premier League last season and all of those appearances came as a substitute.

It seems certain Jovanovic will leave this summer, particularly with director of football Damien Comolli confirming the club are streamlining their squad, and a return to Belgium is probable.

Interesting option

The 30-year-old has dined with members of the Anderlecht hierarchy and was impressed with what he heard as he considers the next move in his career.

Jovanovic told Sport/Foot Magazine: "I'm still under contract with Liverpool, but we already agreed that I can leave for free and that I can find myself a new club.

"And I can tell you that I already had a meeting with Anderlecht officials, it was quite interesting. I had dinner with the club president and director of sport.

"We will see what will happen, but Anderlecht remains an interesting option."

Wenger: 'I'll fight to keep Cesc and Nasri'

Arsène Wenger has vowed to fight as hard as he can to keep Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri at Arsenal.

Both midfielders have been linked with moves away from Emirates Stadium during the summer but, speaking exclusively to Arsenal Player on Friday afternoon, the manager re-affirmed his desire to retain their services.

“Our position is always the same, we want to keep Cesc and I will fight as hard as I can to keep him,” said Wenger.

“Samir Nasri is exactly the same. We will do everything we can to keep him.”

Nasri is expected to travel with the squad this weekend as Arsenal fly out to Malaysia at the start of their tour of Asia however Fabregas has a muscular injury and is likely to be left behind.

Emmanuel Eboue (calf) is an injury doubt.

“We will take the strongest possible squad,” said Wenger. “Fabregas will not travel because he still has a small muscular problem. He will stay and practice here. There is a doubt about Eboue who has done his calf.”

Arsenal.com hope to publish the full travelling party on Saturday afternoon.

據意大利的La Gazzetta dello Sport報導，羅馬的體育總監Walter Sabatini已飛抵荷蘭的阿姆斯特丹，準備於周五與阿積士的高層見面，商討收購該支荷蘭球會的正選門將史基倫堡的可能性。

羅馬的前正選門將當尼如願轉會到利物浦，而報道指「首都狼」視史基倫堡為絕佳的替補。

二十八歲的史基倫堡在近幾年憑精彩的表現晉身為歐洲其中一位最出色的守門員，而銳意大肆擴軍以增強球隊實力的羅馬當然也注意到該荷蘭國腳的顯著進步，因此欲將其收歸旗下。

史基倫堡與阿積士的合約於明年暑假便告完結，為免到時人才兩失，阿積士應會批准前者以大約一千萬歐羅的價錢離隊。

自新班主上任後，羅馬於今年的轉會市場極為活潑。除了史基倫堡外，「首都狼」應會在數日內正式宣佈巴塞天才前鋒保贊及阿根廷超新星拉美拿的加盟。

Essien 'suffers knee injury'
Ghanaian reportedly damages cruciate ligaments in training

Sky Sports sources understand that Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has sustained a serious knee injury in pre-season training.

Reports have emerged from the Cobham training ground of last season's Premier League runners-up that the Ghanaian has damaged cruciate ligaments on the first day of full training.

Essien has been troubled by knee injuries in the past and it has been suggested that the problems have decreased his impact as a player.

The 28-year-old was unavailable for a large chunk of the 2008/09 season due to cruciate knee ligament damage.

Essien then suffered a medial ligament injury at the African Nations Cup last year and missed the 2010 World Cup as a consequence.

Chelsea, or new boss Andre Villas-Boas, have yet to confirm the news, but it is thought that further medical tests are being undertaken at Cobham.

It had been suggested earlier in the summer that Essien could be sold and Inter Milan were linked with a bid.

Skysports.com can confirm that Aston Villa are interested in signing Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton.

The Scottish international looks set to be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this summer, with Kyle Walker set to become Harry Redknapp's first choice at right-back.

McLeish knows Hutton very well from his time as Rangers boss and even handed him his first-team debut.

Whilst Scotland boss, McLeish also handed him his maiden international call and has never hidden his admiration for the 26-year-old.

He is now ready to take Hutton to Villa Park as one of his first recruits, with Spurs happy to sell after four years that have seen him make just over 50 appearances for the club.

Hammers demand Diamanti action

An alleged non-payment of a £2million transfer-fee instalment has seen West Ham request the Italian Football Federation to suspend Alessandro Diamanti's registration with Brescia.

The striker left Upton Park after just one year, hitting eight goals in 30 matches, to join the then Serie A side in August 2010.

But the latest instalment of the £2m transfer fee has not been paid, according to the Hammers, and the Championship club have called on football's governing bodies to intervene.

A statement from West Ham read: "Due to the failure of Brescia to pay the latest instalment fee, West Ham have asked the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) to suspend the player's registration and requested that the national association and Fifa impose sporting sanctions until the matter is resolved."

He has since scored six goals in 31 appearances for Brescia and earned his first Italy cap.
