Stoke in talks with duo

Chairman Peter Coates has revealed that Stoke City are in negotations with Carlton Cole and Jonathan Woodgate about potential moves.

West Ham striker Cole has been linked with a move to The Potters since the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League and it is understood that a deal for the 27-year-old could be completed for an initial fee of around £4.5 million.

Cole joined fellow England internationals Rob Green and Scott Parker as part of Sam Allardyce's 26-man squad that travelled to Switzerland on Friday for a six-day training camp.
Progress

Coates said: "Cole's a player the club is interested in and Tony Pulis has liked him for a long time, we think he's a very good player.

"It's not done and dusted but it's work in progress.

"He's a player the club is interested in and Tony Pulis has liked him for a long time, we think he's a very good player."

Meanwhile, Coates has admitted free agent Woodgate could well be a target for the club, with a view to a play-per-play deal.

The former Real Madrid and Tottenham defender's career has been plagued by injury.

Coates added: "We're working on that and it's something we're prepared to do.

"It's work in progress but we're taking a risk. We hope we'll be able to do something."

Chelsea and Real Madrid target Radamel Falcao ready to accept a new contract at Porto - report

The striker, who is currently playing in Copa America, could still leave Portugal but potential suitors will have to pay significantly more to land the Colombia international

Porto striker Radamel Falcao is set to pen a new contract with the Portuguese champions, as they fight to keep hold of their prized asset amidst interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo are reporting that the 25-year-old forward, who finished as the leading scorer in the Europa League last season with a record 17 goals, has agreed to improved personal terms, following in the footsteps of team-mates Hulk and James Rodriguez.

Furthermore, any club wishing to prise Falcao away from Porto will have to pay a considerably higher sum as his minimum-fee release clause will be increased from ?30 million to ?45m, reflecting the status of the striker as one of the most sought-after players across Europe.

Since the appointment of former Porto coach Andre-Villas Boas as the new Chelsea boss, there have been rumours that the 33-year-old would take Falcao with him to spearhead a new era at Stamford Bridge.

However, the attacker is not averse to remaining at his current club and told Spanish daily AS earlier this week: "I am in a good moment and at a very organised club.

"This is a top team, with excellent players and a team that has allowed me to take an important step. I am distancing myself from speculation. I learned about alleged interest from Real Madrid but I am fine at Porto."

Bayern Munich turn attention to Chelsea's Alex after failed pursuit of Manchester City's Jerome Boateng - report

The Bavarian giants have had enough of trying to convince the super-rich Premier League side to sell and have decided to set their sights on the former PSV centre-half

Bayern Munich have finally admitted defeat in their quest to sign Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng and have turned their attention to Chelsea centre-half Alex, according to a report by Sport1.

The website claims that the Bayern hierarchy have had enough of attempting to reach an agreement with the Premier League side over a transfer fee, with the Citizens believed to have wanted at least ?22.5 million (£20m).

One last-ditch and ultimately unsuccessful attempt was allegedly made on Friday to sign the versatile 22-year-old, who had long since made it clear that his desire was to return to Germany having struggled with injuries and competition for places at Eastlands.

Bayern have now set their sights on 28-year-old Alex, who along with Barcelona's Gabriel Milito, had previously been mentioned as a potential alternative as Bayern seek to strengthen what has been a less than wateright backline following a disappointing season without a major trophy.

The ex-PSV man would be cheaper than Boateng and has considerable experience in the Champions League with both Chelsea and his former club, but has been unable to nail down a first-team spot in West London with John Terry and David Luiz firmly ensconced as first-choice centre-backs.

New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly already making plans to sign Alex's potential replacement, having been linked with a move for Porto defender Rolando.

Arsenal duo Manuel Almunia & Nicklas Bendtner in move talks

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and striker Nicklas Bendtner are in talks with unnamed clubs over moves away from the Emirates.

Bendtner, 23, and Almunia, 34, were left out a 23-man squad that will travel to Asia for a pre-season tour.

An Arsenal spokesman confirmed this was so the pair could undertake negotiations over potential transfers.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is expected to clarify details over the impending moves at a press conference on Monday.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who has been strongly linked with a move to former club Barcelona this summer, will also miss the tour in order to receive treatment on a muscle injury.

The other notable absentee is defender Emmanuel Eboue, who is nursing a calf strain.

However, midfielder Samir Nasri - reportedly the target of interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea - will travel with the squad.

Arsenal first head to Malaysia on Sunday to face an All-Star XI before heading west to face Hangzhou Greentown in China.

Should Bendtner and Almunia exit the Emirates that will make three notable departures from Arsenal this summer following Gael Clichy's £6m move to Manchester City.

Spaniard Almunia, who moved to London from Celta Vigo in 2004, began last season as Arsenal's first-choice keeper but spent much of the campaign sidelined through a combination of injury and Wenger's preference for Wojciech Szczesny as his number one.

Denmark international Bendtner joined the Arsenal academy in 2005 and spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Birmingham.

Last season he made 32 appearances for the Gunners (18 of them as a substitute) and scored eight goals, including a hat-trick against Leyton Orient in an FA Cup fifth-round replay.

Wigan to sell N'Zogbia

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed the club cannot afford not to sell star winger Charles N'Zogbia this summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with a summer move with the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and Sunderland all mentioned.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his Wigan deal and the club do not want to run the risk of losing him for free.

Only recently manager Roberto Martinez said the club could retain its star players, Whelan now admits they have little option but to sell.

The Latics supremo would love to extend N'Zogbia's deal, however, he concedes it is a 'very difficult' situation.
Sale

"We have to sell Charles N'Zogbia because he's on the last year of his contract," explained Whelan.

"We can't keep him if a big club comes for him and he does deserve a big club because he's that kind of quality player.

"We would love to keep him and pay him what he wants to stay with us but it's a very difficult situation.

"He's such a great player and we are such a small club sometimes we don't go together."

Stockdale open to Swans

Fulham keeper David Stockdale has confirmed he would be willing to go out on loan this coming season in order to play regularly.

Stockdale made seven Premier League appearances last term with veteran Mark Schwarzer earning the bulk of the playing time.

The Cottagers are closing in on the capture of Hungarian goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi and Stockdale is keen to play more games.

Swansea are looking for number one reinforcements following Dorus de Vries' Wolves move and Stockdale is a fan of the club.

The ex-Darlington shot-stopper is keen to play in the Premier League if possible, although he would be willing to consider the Championship.
Chance

"I think (Jol) might stay with Mark, which is understandable, so it might be a chance for me to go out on loan," he told Sky Sports News.

"They've signed a new goalkeeper, so hopefully that paves the way for a loan move. I want to play games.

"It's not about being part of the Premier League and sitting on the bench. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but I want to be playing games.

"If there isn't a Premier League option I might have to go down the league.

"The chairman's passed the word that he doesn't want to sell me. I just have to get on with it. I like it here.

"I've been here three years now. I've had to prove myself time and time again. I've just got to keep working hard."

When asked if he fancied a move to Swansea he added: "Definitely. What a club to go to.

"They've just come up. It would suit me down to the ground."

Vidal open to Juve talks

Interest from Juventus and Arsenal for midfielder

Bayern Leverkusen's Arturo Vidal has revealed that Serie A giants Juventus are interested in signing him.

However, the Chile international has claimed that he will not make a decision regarding his future until the conclusion of the Copa America tournament.

The defensive midfielder has attracted a lot of interest from Italy and the Premier League, with Arsenal also thought to be weighing up a bid for the player.

Vidal commented from Chile's training ground: "Juventus? Yes, there is a possibility, but I will decide my future after the Copa America.

"I must think about my future and Juventus would be a good opportunity for me."

Meanwhile, Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller admitted that Vidal is being chased by a number of clubs.

He is quoted by Corriere dello Sport as saying: "Arturo is a highly-coveted player. There are many clubs who want to buy him.

"We will only sell him in the summer when an offer that we deem appropriate comes. In any case, we hope he can stay with us."

Lamela seals Roma switch

Midfield talent joins trio of new signings

Relegated Argentine giants River Plate have been forced to sell highly-rated teenager Erik Lamela to Roma for around ?20 million (£17.7m).

The 19-year-old midfielder who reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona, has penned a five-year deal with the Serie A side worth ?1.5million (£1.3m) according to Italian news agency ANSA.

River Plate president Daniel Passarella also confirmed Lamela's exit.

Lamela, who featured 36 times for Los Millonarios, scored four goals in a season which saw the most successful club in the history of the Argentine game relegated to the second tier for the first time ever.

The club is desperately trying to off-load players in a bid to raise funds as it faces a growing financial crisis.

Lamela becomes the fourth signing made by Roma since the club were taken over by Italian-American businessman Thomas DiBenedetto.

New recruits to the Italian capital include Spanish full-back Jose Angel from Sporting Gijon, Nantes defender Loic Nego and Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic
