It's up to Real Madrid and Benfica to agree terms - Fabio CoentraoThe Portugal international is continually linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu and has made it clear that it is up to the clubs to reach an agreement
Benfica defender Fabio Coentrao has repeated his desire to move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, and has made it clear that it is now up to both clubs to reach an agreement.
Coentrao was at once stage thought to be close to a move to Bayern Munich but the Germans baulked at Benfica's ?30m asking price.
The Portugal international has previously stated that he will only leave Lisbon to move to Madrid, and the 23-year-old hopes terms can be settled between the two parties.
"There is a mutual interest between me and Real Madrid. However, it is up to the clubs to reach an agreement over a transfer fee," Coentrao was quoted as saying by Marca. "I can only hope that my dream of playing for Real Madrid will become reality."
The left-back went on to say that it would not matter to him what position head coach Jose Mourinho intended to use him in, should a move to Santiago Bernabeu go through.
"I would play in whatever position the coach needs me. Everything is fine by me except playing as a goalkeeper. I will play where Mourinho wants me to play."
Coentrao concluded by looking back at his previous spell in La Liga, with Real Zaragoza in 2008-09, adding: "I was still very young and it was not a good experience. On the other hand, I did learn a lot from that period."
The full-back has an ongoing contract with Benfica, but has a minimum fee release clause inserted of ?30 million, and it is not yet clear whether Madrid will meet that valuation.
