Real Madrid confirm signing of goalkeeper Keylor Navas


Los Blancos have announced an agreement with Levante. The 27-year-old, who joins for 10m euros, will sign a six-year deal and be unveiled on Tuesday at 13:00.

A statement published on the club’s website on Sunday confirmed:


"Real Madrid C. F. and Levante U. D. have reached an agreement for the transfer of Keylor Navas, who will be tied to the club for the next six seasons.

The player will be presented on Tuesday 5 August at 13:00, in the president’s box in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, after undergoing the corresponding medical.

Subsequently, Keylor Navas will step out onto the turf in the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time in a Real Madrid shirt and will speak to the press in the press room."

Real will pay 10 million euros to meet Navas' buy-out fee, but have not formally activated his release clause and will therefore avoid the tax payments this would have involved.

After proving one of the stars of the 2013/14 Liga BBVA season, Navas offered an exhibition of his immense quality at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

His displays in goal helped Costa Rica to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

With a trio of ‘man of the match’ awards during the tournament, he was one of the three nominees for the Golden Glove.

Last season, he made the most saves in the Spanish top flight (163), with the highest percentage of stops (80.1%) among goalkeepers who played more than five matches.

Conceding 39 goals in 37 games, he contributed to Levante finishing the league campaign with the fifth meanest defence in the division,

bettered only by the four teams in the Champions League places.

Before arriving in Europe, he began his career at Costa Rican outfit Deportivo Saprissa, winning two league titles, two apertura and two clausura championships,

in addition to one CONCACAF Champions’ Cup. In 2010 he signed for Albacete and, after an outstanding season, he moved to Levante.

Keeper Keylor Navas will be the next to arrive at Real Madrid
Los Blancos need to resolve their goalkeeping dilemma. The signing would make it four keepers in the squad: Jesus Fernandez, Casillas, Diego Lopez and Navas.



In the wake of the signings of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, the next man to arrive at Real Madrid will be Keylor Navas.
The goalkeeper, who is on holiday in his native Costa Rica, has already begun sending goodbye messages to his Levante team-mates.

Los Blancos’ plan is to tie up the transfer as soon as possible and, although a move for Falcao is still pending,
concentrate on player departures and the team’s pre-season in the USA.
Director general Jose Angel Sanchez was due to fly to Los Angeles on Wednesday, but has delayed his journey to finalise the signing of Navas.
Club president Florentino Perez was also planning to be with the team in the US, and is expected to arrive there next week.

Real have a deal in place with Levante.
They will pay the 27-year-old’s 10-million-euro buy-out clause, with eight going to the club and the remaining two being paid to the player.
On Monday, Levante president Quico Catalan acknowledged that talks were ongoing:
“If we had a total agreement, it would be made public; but we don’t. A lot of that is down to the player.
A decision will be taken when both parties are clear on things.” And Navas' decision has been taken. He wants to play for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid now have a goalkeeping dilemma to solve. Navas’ arrival would leave the Champions League winners with four keepers.
Academy graduate Jesus Fernandez – who had appeared set to join Granada in June, only for Madrid to ask him to hold off on the deal – is now looking for a club. One of Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas will have to leave.
The club’s preference is for Lopez to depart the Santiago Bernabeu, but the Galician does not want to move, and plans to fight for his place in the team.
Casillas also wants to stay, and said so to Perez and Sanchez in a meeting before the World Cup in Brazil.

Real Madrid are my priority, says Navas



Costa Rica international Keylor Navas has admitted that he is keen to leave Levante for Real Madrid ahead of the 2014-15 season.

The goalkeeper initially appeared to be on his way to Bayern Munich after Levante vice-president Tomas Perez claimed that a transfer to the Bundesliga champions was all but done.

Nevertheless, Navas has made it clear that he would prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu side after Madrid also agreed to meet his ?10 million buyout clause.

"Real Madrid are my priority. Everything else gets put on hold for Madrid," the 27-year-old was quoted as saying by Marca.

Navas was one of the revelations of the 2013-14 La Liga campaign as he helped Levante to a 10th-place finish with a string of fine performances.

The former Saprissa and Albacete man further impressed at the World Cup, guiding Costa Rica to the quarter-finals, and he now seems destined to continue his career at Madrid.
