Atletico Madrid are closing in on the ?25 million signing of wantaway Real Sociedad star Antoine Griezmann.

Goal understands that negotiations to bring the 23-year-old to the Vicente Calderon began

over a month ago but that the two Liga clubs are close to finalising a deal and confirmation could be imminent.

Although Griezmann's release clause is ?30m,

Real Sociedad are aware they are unlikely to get such an offer from any interested parties and are instead hoping to convince Atletico to part with ?25m.

Atletico's desire to sign the France international, who impressed in his appearances at the World Cup,

had largely gone under the radar but they look set to have beaten reported suitors Arsenal, Tottenham and Monaco to his signature.

Griezmann has been with Real Sociedad since 2005, when he arrived at youth level, and has a contract at the Anoeta until 2016,

however he has ambitions to play at a club with whom he can consistently play Champions League football.

Atletico appealed to the forward as they showed under Diego Simeone last season -

when they won La Liga and were runners up in the Champions League - that they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the country and Europe.

Griezmann would follow striker Mario Mandzukic, signed from Bayern Munich earlier this month, as the latest high profile summer signing from the Rojiblancos,

while Manchester United man Javier Hernandez also remains a possible target.

Atletico Madrid is reportedly close to finalising the ?25 million transfer of Real Sociedad striker, Antoine Griezmann in the coming hours.



Following reports on Friday that Atletico Madrid were leading the chase to sign the French international,
it now appears that Los Colchoneros are nearing a deal for the 23-year-old goal-scorer.

According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to sign the player,
who feels that Diego Simeone’s side are offering him the best possible chance for success;
Champions League football and consistent starting minutes in a team that has won six trophies over the past several years.

Real Sociedad were holding firm on Griezmann’s ?30 million release clause, but talks have progressed and Atleti have talked the price down to ?25 million.

Diego Simeone sees Griezmann as the perfect compliment to Mario Mandzukic and a perfect facilitator for Arda Turan and Koke.

Tottenham and PSG has expressed interest in the player over recent weeks, but Spurs cannot offer the Champions League,

while PSG are unable to make the investment due to their Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Griezmann close to being an Atletico player
The Madrid club appear to have persuaded Real Sociedad to part with the player, for around 25 million euros.

Atleti appear to be close to landing Real Sociedad player Griezmann.
The conversations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage and a deal could be finalised in the next few hours.
Indeed, yesterday (Friday) the player’s Twitter profile no longer stated that he is a Real Sociedad player.

The French left winger would be ideal for Atleti’s attack and the club’s bosses have pursued him accordingly. Equally, the player is keen to come to Madrid.

Last season Griezmann, along with Carlos Vela, was one of Real Sociedad’s stand-out players, and led to him joining the French national side in Brazil at the World Cup.
Ribery’s absence from the side opened the doors for the player who was one of the highlights of Deschamps’ side.

Griezmann is one of the continent’s most sought after players, hence Atleti’s persistent, silent hard work to land him.
That said La Real weren’t keen to let him go, telling Atleti that if they wanted him then they could pay his buy-out clause of 30 million euros.
The conversations though have been fruitful for Atleti, who expect the deal to be closed for something closer to 25 million.

Atleti made a move for the player in 2011 and was close to bringing him to Madrid. Griezmann at that time admitted he was keen to play in red and white, t
hough he eventually backed down and stayed in San Sebastian.

Simeone thinks the player would be a fantastic addition to his team, and perfect to play alongside Mandzukic, with Koke and Arda behind creating the danger.

Both Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad confirmed they have reached an agreement over the Frenchman's 30-million-euro transfer on Monday morning.



Atletico Madrid have confirmed a deal to sign Real Sociedad's France international Antoine Griezmann.

The transfer of the 23-year-old, who will join the Spanish champions for a fee of 30 million euros, has also been announced by La Real on their official club website.

Griezmann, who had been at the Basque outfit since the age of 13,

completed a medical at the Clinica Fremap on Monday alongside Cristian Ansaldi, the Rojiblancos’ next signing.

Atletico's statement reads:

"Atletico de Madrid and Real Sociedad have reached an agreement for the transfer of Antoine Griezmann (Macon, France, 1991).

The young French football player will undergo the corresponding medical examination before signing the contract with our Club."

The France international arrived in Madrid on Tuesday morning and put pen to paper on his contract with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

Antoine Griezmann arrived in Madrid on Tuesday morning after travelling from San Sebastian, where he said goodbye to the Real Sociedad players and fans.

“I arrived at the age of 13 and they were the only ones that gave me confidence and believed in me,” he said in a farewell press conference.

The France international is now looking to the future with Atletico Madrid, who on Monday announced an agreement with La Real over his transfer. He admitted: “I’m delighted”.

After landing in the Spanish capital, the 23-year-old transferred to the Vicente Calderon to sign his contract, the club confirming that he has put pen to paper on a six-year deal.
