Transfer News: Mexico's World Cup goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa signs three-year deal at La Liga side Malaga



Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has completed a move to La Liga side Malaga.

Ochoa, 29, was one of the outstanding performers at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and he has signed a three-year contract with the Spanish club.          

A statement on Malaga's website read:

"Malaga has reached an agreement to sign one of the best goalkeepers of the recent World Cup in Brazil, Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magana."                

Ochoa, who is due to be unveiled later on Friday, was a free agent after his contract with relegated Ligue 1 side AC Ajaccio expired this summer.            

The keeper had spent three seasons with Ajaccio before surprisingly being chosen as Mexico's first-choice keeper at the World Cup.                

He helped Miguel Herrera's side reach the last 16, and was outstanding in helping his team hold hosts Brazil to a 0-0 draw during the group stage.

Arsenal were among a number of clubs linked with signing the Mexican after his performances in Brazil, but they opted to sign Colombia keeper David Ospina instead.

Guillermo Ochoa rejects all offers in favour of Malaga

Mexican international goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa has reportedly rejected offers from several different clubs,
as the 2014 World Cup star is holding out to sign with Malaga, who are his first priority.




According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Ochoa has rejected lucrative offers from several French Ligue 1 sides in order to make the move to Spain,
which is the preferred destination of the 2014 World Cup star.

The report goes on to add that Ochoa’s representative, Jorge Berlanga,
reached out to Malaga as they arrived in Barcelona for their final stop on the way back from their pre-season tour of Australia,
to inform them that Ochoa would be getting his EU passport by the end of the summer and to put the final touches on the agreement.

The two sides are close to finalising the deal, which could be announced as soon as next week.

Ochoa has spent the past several seasons with Ajaccio in France,
but following their relegation last season, the 29-year-old was allowed to opt out of his contract and leave on a free transfer.

Official: Malaga swoop for Ochoa

Malaga have announced the signing of goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa as a replacement for Willy Caballero.

The 29-year-old had been a free agent after his contract with Ajaccio expired at the end of last season

and was inundated with offers on the back of his heroics with Mexico at this summer's World Cup.

Ochoa has now decided to sign for Malaga, who had been looking for a new No.1 following the loss of Caballero to Manchester City.

Los Boquerones announced on Thursday evening that the El Tri shot-stopper will be formally presented to the press at the Rosaleda at 17:00 on Friday.

Ochoa, who has been capped 63 times by his country, started his career at America before moving to Ajaccio in 2011.
