Sources within the player’s circle assume that the striker is set to join Atletico on a deal worth 11 million euros.



Several weeks ago, Atletico were considering Fernando Torres or Roberto Soldado as the candidates to complete their attack.
But their search for a striker had taken a sudden,
unexpected turn and the man who could partner Mario Mandzukic up front next term could well be America centre-forward, Raul Jimenez.

From what AS has been able to gather, sources close to the player have taken it for granted that Jimenez will be at the Calderon for the new season
while directors at the Mexican club seem resigned to losing him. Raul Jimenez could fly to Madrid to complete his move before next weekend.

Atletico met America in the EuroAmerica Cup tournament last month and it is believed it was during this time that negotiations began.

The 23-year-old made his senior debut with America in 2011 and since then has scored 32 goals in 93 appearances in domestic competition.
His tally in the current Torneo Apertura are impressive – four goals in just 170 minutes on-field after the first three games.
He was also part of the Mexico squad which collected the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics.

Atletico are not the only European club interested in hiring the player, Valencia and Porto have been tracking him during the summer.

Transfer news: Atletico Madrid closing on deal for Raul Jimenez



Raul Jimenez appears set to complete a move to Atletico Madrid, with both parties expressing a desire to get a deal done.

The Mexico international forward is currently on the books of Club America in his homeland.

The 23-year-old has made quite an impression since breaking into the senior ranks, with an impressive strike rate drawing admiring glances from Europe.

Atletico have now made their move to take Jimenez to Spain, with a formal offer tabled.

Jimenez admits he is open to discussing a move, with the opportunity to link up with the reigning La Liga champions too good to turn down.

He told Mediotiempo: "It's something I’ve always wanted and looked for. The chance has finally arisen and I hope it comes off.

"It's a chance I cannot pass up, right out of the blue.

"They're the Spanish league champions and I'll have to go and fight for a place."

Club America have also opened the door to a possible transfer, with chairman Ricardo Pelaez prepared to talk terms.

He said: "Atletico Madrid have made an offer for Raul Jimenez, but until the deal is agreed or rejected we won't make any public statement.

"If the offer is a good one, which I think it is, the player can leave."

Report: Raul Jimenez to sign for Atletico Madrid
Mexico international striker expected to pen six-year deal at the Calderon.

Raul Jimemez has agreed to become an Atletico Madrid player, according to Mexican daily Diario Record Mexico.
The striker will cost the Calderon club 10.5 million euros.

Jimenez, 23, is expected to sign a six-year contract, pending an official announcement by Atletico and his current club, America de Mexico.
Jimenez is a full international and was selected by Miguel Herrera for the World Cup in Brazil.
In this year's Torneo Apertura in the Mexican Liga MX, Jimenez has scored four goals in three matches.

Atletico is in need of reinforcements in attack after the summer departures of first-team strikers David Villa, Diego Costa and Adrian Lopez.
So far in the close-season, Atletico coach Diego Simeone has added Croatia international Mario Mandzukic to his squad but possess just Leo Baptistao in reserve -- the Brazilian forward is widely expected to be loaned out before the transfer window closes.

Atletico confirm Raul Jimenez capture
Both Atletico and Club America made announcements on Wednesday evening, the Mexican club adding the message: “Spread your wings and fly high!”



Raul Jimenez is now officially a new Atletico de Madrid player;
the capital club have reached an agreement with Club America for the striker, who will join the Rojiblancos for the next six seasons.
The deal is reported to have been closed at around 11 million euros.
Atletico had hoped to bring Jimenez to Madrid on Wednesday but negotiations were delayed until an agreement was reached regarding the player’s signing on fee.
In the end both agreed on a fee of 500,000 euros which will be shared between the club and player.

Jimenez is Atletico’s eighth signing of the summer, following Moya, Oblak, Ansaldi, Mandzukic, Griezmann, Gamez and Siqueira.
With America, the 23-year-old started out as an out-and-out striker but in recent years he has dropped back,
playing deeper in an auxiliary role, playing off centre-forward.

Jimenez was part of the Mexico team which collected the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. He underwent trials with Club America’s archrivals,
Cruz Azul but was coaxed to join ‘Las Aguilas’ where he progressed through the various youth levels, making his senior debut in 2011.
He is due to land at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas at 14:30 tomorrow – the start of a new stage in his career
