Ajax has reached an agreement with John Heitinga. In Amsterdam, the transfer-free defender has signed a contract that is effective immediately, until June 30, 2016. An option for a one-year extension, until June 30, 2017, has been included in the contract.
Heitinga was born on November 15, 1983, in Alphen aan den Rijn. The player followed the entire Ajax youth academy. He made his debut for Ajax on August 26, 2001, in the Feyenoord – Ajax (1-2) match. He played a total of 215 official matches for Ajax, scoring 24 times. Heitinga won the national championship twice with Ajax (2002, 2004), the KNVB cup three times (2002, 2006, 2007), as well as the Johan Cruijff Shield (2002, 2005, 2006, 2007).
Last season he played for the German team Hertha BSC. Prior to that, he played for Atletico Madrid, Everton FC and Fulham FC.
