- The 30-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful season playing for Besiktas in Turkey
- Another former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, also played for Shanghai
- Besiktas have yet to confirm the transfer
Shanghai Shenhua claim they have completed the signing of former West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba from Besiktas for a fee thought to be around £9million. The 30-year-old Senegal international had been heavily linked with a move to West Brom this week, but has instead reportedly decided to sign for the Chinese side.
Besiktas have yet to confirm the deal, but Shanghai posted a 'Welcome to Shanghai Shenua' picture with a news story on their website on Saturday.Ba's decision would come as a surprise, having enjoyed a hugely successful season playing in Turkey, where he notched 27 goals in 44 games in all competitions.
Since starting out at Rouen in 2005, the journeyman forward has played for seven professional clubs.
Ba's most prolific scoring return while playing in England came during his spell at Newcastle in the 2011-12 campaign, in which he managed 16 goals in 34 appearances, helping the club to qualify for the Europa League.
Of course, Ba is not the first Premier League player to make the move out to Asia should a deal go through. Another former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, turned out for Shanghai between 2012 and 2013.
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt also had a brief spell playing for South China in 2010.
