Bayer Leverkusen sign Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Schalke Bayer Leverkusen have completed the permanent signing of Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Schalke after the centre-back spent the season on loan at the BayArena. The Greece international spent four seasons with Schalke before joining Roger Schmidt's side on loan last summer, going on to make 14 Bundesliga appearance and scoring twice. “Kyriakos Papadopoulos sees his future at Leverkusen,” explained Schalke's sporting director Horst Heldt. “We have met his wishes and give him our best.”
The defender has previously attracted the interest of Liverpool and AC Milan but a knee injury that kept him out for a year from Novermber 2012 scuppered any potential deals.
However, now fully recovered, Papadopoulos is excited to continue with Leverkusen after signing a five-year contract with the Rhineland club.
"I am delighted that it worked out," the 23-year-old told the Leverkusen website. "I am looking forward to my future with this great team and think we can still move forward a lot.”
