Roma confirm Francesco Totti will be offered a new contractBy Nadia Carminati. Last Updated: July 31, 2013 9:28pm
Francesco Totti looks set to stay at Roma after the club revealed they will offer him a new contract in the Italian capital.
The playmaker has been linked with money-spinning moves to America recently with his current deal with his only senior club due to expire next summer.
But it now appears as if his future at the Stadio Olimpico is assured after the club's president, James Pallotta, signalled the Giallorossi's intentions.
"We are going to talk to Francesco about a new deal," Pallotta told reporters in the USA. "We want to build his future with Roma for the coming years".
Totti has made almost 700 appearances for the club since his debut in 1992. Now aged 36 he reiterated his desire to achieve more success with Roma as he refuted the MLS rumours.
He said: "I'm focused solely on Roma. The club is trying to put together a squad that can compete at a high level.
"You win titles with strong players. We hope to compete at the highest level in Europe soon."
And his president has also set out his aims for 2013/14 as Pallotta continued: "Our aim is not just getting a Champions League place but becoming number one."
