Real Madrid youngster Jese could be sidelined until next season after it was confirmed he had suffered a serious knee injury in Tuesday's Champions League win against Schalke.
The highly-rated forward was carried off on a stretcher just minutes into the match at the Bernabeu and, after undergoing tests at hospital, Madrid announced the 21-year-old had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
A medical statement on the club's wesbite read: "After the exploration and scans taken at the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja, our player Jese Rodriguez has been diagnosed with complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee."
Madrid did not estimate how long Jese might be out for, but injuries of this kind tend to have a recovery period of at least six months.
The Spain Under-21 international, who had been talked about as a possible contender to go to the World Cup with the defending champions this summer, sustained the injury after just two minutes of the last-16 second leg following an innocuous-looking tussle with Sead Kolasinac.
He was replaced by Gareth Bale, with Madrid going on to win the match 3-1 to progress through to the quarter-finals with a 9-2 aggregate scoreline.
