Liga - Barcelona blow as Koke signs new deal at Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid have announced that Koke and Juanfran have both signed new contracts at the club.



Reports had suggested that Koke, 22, had been identified as Xavi's replacement at Barcelona, while Chelsea were also reported to hold an interest in the midfielder.

However, the player who came through the Atletico academy has now committed himself to the club until the summer of 2019.

Another key figure in Atletico's Liga triumph this season has also penned a new deal with right-back Juanfran, 29, signing on until 2018.

Both players are members of the Spain squad who have just returned home after a disastrous World Cup campaign.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has dealt a blow to Barcelona by renewing his contract with the Primera Division champions.

The 22-year-old is seen as the future of the Spanish national side and Barca are believed to view him as a long-term replacement for Xavi Hernandez, who is expected to follow Chelsea-bound Cesc Fabregas out the Nou Camp door this summer.

However, local boy Koke has always said he is committed to staying with his boyhood club and has backed his words up with this renewal, which commits him to Atletico until 2019.

Diego Simeone's side have also tied down the future of right-back Juanfran, who has penned a new deal until 2018.

"Koke and Juanfran have extended their contracts with our club until 2019 and 2018 respectively," said a statement on the Atletico website. "Both players are key pieces in our recent successes and their Atletico renewals are great news for our club."

Both Juanfran and Koke were incremental to Atletico's capture of the league title and their contract renewals reverse a worrying trend for the club, who have already waved goodbye to David Villa and look set to lose Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa to Chelsea.

The home-grown player and the footballer from Alicante, key components in the red and white successes, have signed their new contracts with our Club.

Koke and Juanfran have extended their contracts with our Club until 2019 and 2018 respectively. Both players are essential to Atletico's recent successes and their renewals are great news to our Club.

Jorge Resurreccion, Koke, has trained in our lower categories and has grown as an Atletico since he was very young, to become one of the symbols of the current Atletico de Madrid. Instrumental to win the Cup and League titles in the last two campaigns, the midfielder has experienced a spectacular growth that has led him to be featured as one of the best players in our Championship and Europe, and to participate in the recent Brazil World Cup with the senior national team.

For his part, Juanfran Torres joined the Atleticos in the winter of the 2010-11 season, coming from Osasuna. The player from Alicante has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the League and in Europe during these last three campaigns, conquering four titles with our team and the Euro 2012 with the Spanish national team, with which he also played in the Brazil World Cup.
