Ex-Chelsea Forward Mutu retires from football Just days after he was offered a trial at former club Fiorentina, Romanian striker Adrian Mutu has reportedly announced his retirement. Adrian Mutu's career has never been short of surprises and it seems the former Chelsea man may have ended it with one final shock.
On his 36th birthday, Mutu appears to have announced his intention to quit the game to journalists in Romania.
"I don't want to talk about football, I've retired," Mutu is quoted as saying by Digisport.ro with reports starting to spread around Europe. Mutu had been expected to rejoin Fiorentina on a temporary basis, the club where he was lethal between 2006 and 2011 when rebuilding his career after a controversial spell at Chelsea which ended in his contract being terminated for failing a drugs test.
The fiery marksman was expected to feature for Pune during the Indian Super League season, but the move fell through.
His last club were Petrolul Ploiești and there were concerns over his fitness, but Fiorentina had confirmed their offer to give him a chance to impress in training.
It remains to be seen whether Mutu has actually hung up his boots or whether he was speaking in anger at the constant media attention that follows him in his homeland. http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/01/08/report-ex-chelsea-bad-boy-mutu-in-shock-retirement/
