Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo is set to secure a return to Argentina with Boca Juniors after bust-up at Inter Milan

Dani Osvaldo will complete his move to Boca Juniors barring any last minute hiccups.

The Southampton striker was born in Buenos Aires and is keen to return to Argentina after an ill-fated spell on loan with Inter Milan.

Osvaldo, 29, has been ostracised at Inter after a bust-up with coach Roberto Mancini and team-mate Mauro Icardi.


Boca Juniors director Marcelo London said: 'The deal is very advanced.

On Tuesday he’ll sign, and we’ll be able to say that he’s our player. Osvaldo is in perfect condition, and will be Boca’s eighth signing.

'He’ll come on loan, with a clause that states if Boca play in the semi-final and final of the Copa Libertadores he can play those games.'

Argentina's transfer window closes on Sunday. Boca are willing to make the deal permanent at the end of the season and will offer a two year deal but have yet to agree a fee.

Osvaldo cost Southampton £11.2m.

Premier League: Southampton's Dani Osvaldo joins Boca Juniors on loan until the end of the season

Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo has returned to Argentina to join Boca Juniors on loan, after falling out with officials at Inter Milan.

Osvaldo was Southampton's record signing when he joined the club from Roma in 2013 but following a training ground altercation with club captain, Jose Fonte, he was sent out on loan to Juventus for the second half of the season.

It is not the first time the forward has found himself in trouble, he was kicked out of Italy's squad during the 2013 Confederations Cup for insulting his club coach at Roma.

The incident at Inter - who he joined in August - involved forward Mauro Icardi, before Osvaldo was suspended for not appearing at training for two days.

He said: "If everything goes the right way, I'm fulfilling my life's dream. I know Boca well and I am enthusiastic. For someone like me, who used to follow Boca as a supporter, this is a dream."

The 29-year-old is rumoured to be the highest paid footballer in Argentina based on his contract with Boca. A brief statement on Inter's website said the deal had been made 'in agreement with Southampton'.
