Prolific striker Edin Dzeko will remain at VfL Wolfsburg next season.
Dzeko set to stay at Wolfsburg
VfL Wolfsburg can plan for the future with the knowledge that the 2009/10 Bundesliga top scorer Edin Dzeko will still be at the club next season.
By midnight on Monday night, no club had finalised the contractual conditions necessary to have made any transfer for Dzeko possible.
"Best news we will have all Summer"
"The time period this year, in which it has been possible for Dzeko to have moved away, has now elapsed. We are very happy, that this period of uncertainty has ended", said Wolfsburg Chief Executive Dieter Hoeneß.
"Edin staying is one of the best bits of news we will have all Summer. He is a player of exceptional quality, who would have been very difficult to replace. Now we can plan with certainty for the upcoming season, and look to further improve our squad."
Edin Dzeko arrived in Summer 2007 from FK Teplice, and has scored 56 goals in 94 games for Wolfsburg. In the title-winning season of 2008/09, Dzeko (26) and Grafite (38) were together the most successful attacking partnership in Bundesliga history with 54 goals. Dzeko's contract at Wolfsburg keeps him at the club until 2013.
