Deportivo La Coruna promoted to La LigaThe Galicians are back in the Spanish top flight thanks to goals from Riki and Xisco Jimenez, after Antonio Nunez had threatened to spoil their promotion party
Deportivo La Coruna have secured their return to La Liga courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Huesca on Sunday evening.Going into the penultimate round of the Segunda Division season four points clear of second-placed Celta Vigo at the summit of the standings, the Galicians knew that a win would seal promotion with a week to spare.
Depor fell behind at the Riazor when former Liverpool winger Antonio Nunez struck just after the half-hour mark, but Riki equalised for the hosts shortly before the break.
On-loan Newcastle United midfielder Xisco Jimenez then put Depor ahead with 20 minutes to go and Jose Luis Oltra's men held on to clinch the Segunda Division title and a return to the top flight at the very first attempt.
Depor, who won the first division title in 2000, went down last May after finishing 18th in La Liga.

Just a year after being beaten by Granada in the semi-finals of the Segunda Division play-offs on penalties, the Galicians are back in Spain's top flight
Celta Vigo secured their return to La Liga after a five-year absence courtesy of a 0-0 draw with Cordoba on Sunday evening. The Galicians, who were relegated from the Spanish top flight in 2007, went into the final round of the campaign second in the standings, two points ahead of third-placed Real Valladolid in the battle for the one remaining automatic promotion place following confirmation of Deportivo La Coruna's title triumph.
With Cordoba only needing to finish sixth, and thus clinch a place in the play-offs, the draw suited both participants and neither side took any great risks during a drab affair at Balaidos.
In the end, Celta could have afforded to lose, as promotion rivals Valladolid slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Guadalajara, who ensured their safety with the surprise success at the Jose Zorrilla.
Celta's promotion completes a remarkable change in fortunes for the club, who flirted with relegation to Spain's third tier for a couple of seasons after their demotion from the Primera Division.
However, they very nearly went up last season but were left heartbroken after being eliminated from the promotion play-offs at the semi-final stage by Granada.
