Big Sam leading Hammers race
Allardyce leading contender to take over in East London

Skysports.com understands that West Ham are in talks with Sam Allardyce over the vacant managerial post at Upton Park.

The former Blackburn boss has been linked with the Hammers role since Avram Grant was sacked by the club following their relegation from the Premier League earlier this month.

Allardyce was shown the door at Ewood Park by new Rovers owners Venky's in December last year and has not managed since.

But the 56-year-old has now emerged as the leading contender to take over at West Ham and be handed the task of leading the East Londoners back to the top-flight.

Hammers co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are thought to have already held negotiations with Allardyce over taking up the role.

His experience is likely to have attracted him to the club, with the former defender having previously managed at Bolton and Newcastle in the Premier League.

Allardyce has been installed as the bookies' favourite to take the Upton Park post, with Cardiff boss Dave Jones and former Aston Villa tactician Martin O'Neill also reportedly in the frame.

There are reports in the French press today that Newcastle have acquired the services of French International Yohan Cabaye, who
plays for Lille.

Newcastle have been watching Lille a lot since Gervinho is one of Newcastle’s top targets, and the capture of the 25 year old would
not be too much of a surprise, sicne they will have seen him play many times.

Cabaye has a £5M release clause in his contract – and the reports today suggest he met with Newcastle officials yesterday, and the
signing will be made official in about 10 days time.

Maybe this is the deal Alan Pardew talked about early this week about tying up a player this week?

Cabaye plays as a box-to-box midfielder in the middle of the park, and is described as a player who possesses excellent vision,
great ball control, and technical quality, and he is also more than a decent penalty taker.

This even fits the description that Alan gave of the player they were after – Alan had said he played mainly in the middle of the
park.

The Tourcoing born player joined Lille back in 1998 and played for all the French Youth sides (U-16, U-18, U-19, U-20, and U-21),
and made 15 appearances for the French U21 side, before making his debut for the full France side last year.

He made his full French debut August in the team’s friendly match against Norway on 11th August 2010 under new manager Laurent
Blanc.

In his career at Lille has made 252 appearances with 39 goals and 35 assists.

David Trezeguet's agent says striker would welcome move to Lazio

Agent for former Juventus talisman has hinted at a possible return to the Serie A to join Rome giants, despite reports of a move to America

Former Hercules striker David Trezeguet is nearing a move back to Serie A, according to the player's agent Antonio Caliendo.

Following the Spainish club's relegation from La Liga, the 33-year-old became a free agent, and has drawn interest from Napoli, as well as MLS side New York Red Bulls, who have Trezeguet's former French team-mate Thierry Henry in the squad.

However Caliendo appears to be pushing the ex-Juventus striker towards a return to Italy by revealing that Lazio are keen to secure Trezeguet's signature.

"Trezeguet would represent an important element for the Biancocelesti, while Lazio would be a welcome option for the player," Caliendo told Italian news site Lalaziosiamonoi.

"The transfer market is all about rumours, but I have to say there is genuine interest from Lazio.

"Right now David is on vacation in New York and I don’t want to disturb him. When he returns, we will begin planning his future."

Speculative offers are said to have come from Greek giants Olympiakos, Diego Maradona’s new club Al-Wasl and Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev.

Trezeguet moved to Spain following a ten-year spell at Turin. He scored 12 goals in 30 appearances for Hercules.

Benitez offered Atletico Madrid job - report

After a disastrous spell at Inter, former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been handed an "extremely attractive" chance to return to management by Atletico Madrid, reports The Times.

The Spaniard - who still lives on Merseyside - had been linked with a move back to the Premier League, but has told Atletico he will consider the opportunity while on holiday and make a decision when he returns.

Benitez - who endured a torrid spell in Italy after leaving Liverpool in 2010 - is said to be in no rush to return to club management and keen to select the right option.

His Inter tenure saw one trophy - the World Club Cup - but also saw the Scudetto slip out of his hands and to rivals AC Milan, with a public spat with Nerazzurri owner Massimo Moratti over transfer funds resulting in some bizarre outbursts, including an cryptic reference to a "mountain of sugar" in one post-match conference.

Benitez has long admitted his admiration for Atletico, having started his coaching at Real Madrid's youth teams, but often spoken on his fondness for their cross-town rivals.

In February he said: "I have always had sympathy for Atletico Madrid, because, among other things, I have friends there and my father always liked Atletico. He said he was going to support Atletico Madrid ahead of Real and I have always had much sympathy for them since. The team has always seemed spectacular, especially their fans."

Benitez returns from holiday in 10 days time.

Barca prepare new Fabregas raid after Wenger angers the Catalan giants

Barcelona will make a £30million bid for Cesc Fabregas this week after Arsenal moved for one of the Spanish club’s talented youngsters.

The Catalan club begin their summer transfer negotiations today, following the Champions League final, and have been irked by Arsene Wenger’s move for Hector Bellerin, 16.

The full-back will be the second Barca graduate Arsenal have moved for in a few months after midfielder Jon Toral agreed to join in February.

That will prompt Barcelona to step up their interest in long-term target Fabregas, another of their former academy products, and bring another summer of protracted negotiations.

The Spaniards will argue that Fabregas’s value has fallen since they made a £35million bid last summer, even though he is under contract until 2014.

Wenger, who is on holiday, is expected to resist their interest but is yet to commit to buying an experienced centre-half and goalkeeper, the positions which Arsenal fans have been most vociferous about the club strengthening.

The manager is still weighing up whether to move for Christopher Samba, Gary Cahill or Per Mertesacker at centre-half.

A move for Everton’s Leighton Baines is likely later in the summer, with left-back Gael Clichy expected to move.

Tony Pulis set to lure £3.5m Carlton Cole from West Ham with a ticket to Europe

Stoke City are to test West Ham’s resolve to keep Carlton Cole with a £3.5million move to take him from the Championship into Europe.

Manager Tony Pulis has been a long-time admirer of Cole and has not been put off by the 27-year-old’s disappointing form during West Ham’s relegation season.

The England striker scored only five Premier League goals and failed to find the net after February but Pulis, who has helped turn around the careers of players like Jermaine Pennant and Matthew Etherington, believes he can do the same for Cole, whose pace and power would be a huge asset at the Britannia Stadium.
West Ham are looking to cut costs after dropping out of the Premier League with Rob Green and Scott Parker set to leave with Cole.

Two more of their England internationals, Matthew Upson and Kieron Dyer, have been released.

Pulis will look to boost his squad this summer with the club’s run to the FA Cup final earning them a Europa League place.

A striker is top of his priority following his decision not to sign John Carew on a permanent basis following his loan spell from Aston Villa.

Blackpool's Vaughan keen to stay in top flight and reveals Sunderland interest

Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan has revealed Sunderland have shown interest in signing him.

Vaughan is out of contract this summer and likely to move on following the Seasiders' relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

The 28-year-old has been offered a new deal at Bloomfield Road but, like midfield partner Charlie Adam, he is keen to stay in the top flight.

The Wales international said: 'I'm not sure what Charlie is going to do next season and it's down to the club if they decide to accept any bids for him.

'It's out of his hands and for myself I'm just talking to Blackpool and one or two other clubs.

'Hopefully I will make my decision in a couple of weeks.

'Sunderland is a possibility but I am leaving everything to my agent and once I have some concrete offers I'll decide where I want to go.

'Obviously players want to play in the Premier League and hopefully that will be the case for me next season.'

Adam captured most attention during Blackpool's remarkable campaign and was a target for a number of clubs in January.

Yet Vaughan was just as influential and his performances were actually deemed more worthy of the club's player of the year award.

The former Crewe player, who joined Blackpool three years ago after a spell at Real Sociedad, said: 'Charlie was pleased for me to win the award but it's a club where individual awards are less important than the team and that's they way we have always regarded it.

'To win any award is great but when the players vote for you it's a bit more special because they understand what you go through and how well you have done.'

Wherever he plays next season Vaughan is convinced Blackpool, who were relegated on the final day after making a huge initial impression in the Premier League, can challenge for promotion again.

'Obviously it was disappointing to be relegated in the end,' he said. 'We gave a good account of ourselves in the Premier League and on the whole we probably deserved to stay up.

'But we made too many mistakes and it cost us in the end.

'There were a few people saying at the start of the season that we'd be lucky to get 10 points so we proved them wrong.

'We knew we could compete at Premier League level but unfortunately it wasn't quite enough.

'Blackpool can bounce back. They have a good squad of players and a great manager so I'm sure they will be challenging again.'
