CHELSEA AGREE COURTOIS DEAL

Chelsea have agreed to sign highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a five-year deal from Genk, according to the Belgian champions.

Reports suggest the Stamford Bridge outfit have splashed out nine million euros (£7.9million) to land the well-regarded 19-year-old.

Courtois, who has been compared to former Manchester United man Edwin van der Sar, has been earning rave reviews for his performances in Belgium.

And Genk admitted they had little option but to let him leave once the Blues made their intentions plain with a substantial bid.

"We received an enormous offer that gave us no choice but to let our goalkeeper leave," Genk director Dirk Degraen told a press conference.

"But I have mixed feelings about this transfer. Genk wanted Thibaut to stay a bit longer."

Courtois, who has already been capped by his country despite his age, was under contract in his homeland until 2014 and does not expect immediate first-team action in west London.

"Chelsea see me as the successor to Petr Cech," he admitted recently.

"It won't happen in one or two years, but in three, four or five years. I can therefore work on my development in peace."

A squad of 26 players landed close to 1pm Malaysian time to kick-off Chelsea's 2011 Asia tour.
All the senior squad members minus Ramires and David Luiz (who are on international duty) were on the 13-hour flight that left the UK at tea time on Sunday.
Daniel Sturridge, Josh McEachran, Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt are a youthful presence but Gael Kakuta is away with France Under 20s who are soon to compete in the World Cup for that age group.
Also included in the touring party are four young players yet to appear in a competitive game for Chelsea.
They are:
Seventeen-year-old Jamal Blackman, last season's FA Youth Cup campaign goalkeeper.
Billy Clifford, a Youth Cup winner in 2010 who played in midfield against Wycombe and Portsmouth this pre-season. Eighteen years old, he can also play right-back.
Sixteen-year-old Nathaniel Chalobah, England Under 17s' skipper and another who played at Portsmouth on Saturday. A centre-back or midfielder.
Slobodan Rajkovic, a 22-year-old centre-back from Serbia who signed in 2007 but spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem and previous seasons on loan at PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente. He found the net against Wycombe on Tuesday.
The full squad is:
Petr Cech, Henrique Hilario, Ross Turnbull, Jamal Blackman, Jose Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira, Branislav Ivanovic, Alex, John Terry, Slobodan Rajkovic, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ashley Cole, Patrick van Aanholt, Ryan Bertrand, John Mikel Obi, Josh McEachran, Frank Lampard, Yossi Benayoun, Billy Clifford, Yury Zhirkov, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Daniel Sturridge, Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres.

The remainder of Monday will not go to waste. After a first introduction to the local media, the players will train in the evening at the Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, which was the venue for Chelsea's match on our last visit three years ago.
However Thursday's game against the Malaysia XI is in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Courtois reveals Atleti loan plan

Chelsea are intending to send goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on loan to Atletico Madrid next season.

Courtois, 19, is set to join Chelsea from Genk after Andre Villas-Boas confirmed he was undergoing a medical at Stamford Bridge, but he had been expected to return to his native Belgium on loan next season.

Courtois has now revealed that he could now spend up to three years with Atletico, who had expressed an interest in the goalkeeper in their search to replace David de Gea.

"It is better for me to go to Atletico," Courtois said. "I can learn more in Spain than in Belgium. I'll have to fight for my place, but that is life at the top. The easiest option for me would have been to stay at Genk.

"I could be loaned out for a second or even third season before becoming part of Chelsea's first-team squad."

Courtois added that he has already been introduced to some of the key first-team players at Chelsea.

"I was already presented to the players - Lampard and Terry immediately talked to me, and Drogba said he saw on TV how I celebrated the title with Genk, and goalkeeper Petr Cech and I exchanged a few words."

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas says he intends to do “proper business” in the transfer market once the club's pre-season tour of the Far East is over.

The London club arrived in Malaysia ahead of the Barclays Asian Cup and will spend two weeks training and playing matches for their fans based abroad.

The Portuguese coach, 33, joined Chelsea last month from Porto but has yet to make any high-profile signings since his arrival, although the club are interested in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.

When asked about the 25-year-old Croatian, the Blues boss was quoted as saying by The Mirror: “I think I have answered that question enough.

“We do not have the same sense of urgency that you are trying to put on me. It is a big 15 days and then we will go to the market and do some proper business.

“The market has plenty to offer. We have to decide on our needs but we will not be putting players to the test because they are top quality. By the time we go to the market we will know exactly what we need."

New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is eyeing a replacement for the injured Essien, who has been ruled out for 6 months with cruciate ligament damage.
Contact has been made between the Blues and Italian club Roma over the availability of Daniele De Rossi but were told he was not for sale.
Villas-Boas has since turned his attention back to the Premier League, and in particular Everton.
Fellaini is ambitious and wants to play at the highest level and win trophies, which he has admitted is unlikely at Goodison Park, according to Fanatix.
The Toffees finished seventh in the Premier League last season 14 points behind the coveted fourth-place Champions League spot.
Fellaini will hold talks with manager David Moyes before making any decision over his future with Chelsea lining up an offer that will be hard for Everton to turn down.
Moyes is keen to strengthen his squad but knows he will have to sell to do to generate funds.
Fellaini has two years left on his contract but Moyes is hopeful the Belgium international will commit to a contract extension.
Evertons lack of transfer funds has contributed towards the clubs lack of progress in recent seasons, with the club suffering increasing debts.
The Toffee’s board may even risk the wrath of Moyes by opting to cash in on Fellaini to ease financial straits.
