Liverpool owners FSG refused to to sanction a £5million bid for Nikica Jelavic during the January transfer window as they had reportedly already lost faith in Kenny Dalglish.
The 26-year-old had been linked with us during the window but the owners were not prepared to grant Dalglish further funds after wasting tens of millions on under performing players, claims one newspaper report today.
Everton subsequently snapped up the striker on the last day of the window and his goals helped fire the Bluenoses into a final league position above the Reds.
A source is quoted as saying: "Dalglish had spent more than £100million at Liverpool with mixed success... the owners were not prepared to give him any more money.
"He has proved to be an absolute bargain buy by the club."
Supporters were stunned during the January window when no striker was signed as it was obvious that we desperately needed one. While these claims would explain why we saw no action, there were attempts made during that window that didn't come off, which suggests these claims are a load of nonsense.
Meanwhile Fabio Capello stated last night that he was not interested in the possibility of managing Chelsea. His comments were made just before kick-off at last night's Champions League final and with Roberto Di Matteo having steered his side to victory, you would think that he would be given the job on a permanent basis.
Capello is yet to distance himself from reports that suggest he may be a candidate for the Liverpool job.
