Euro injury worry for Barry
Midfielder will require scan on troublesome groinLast Updated: May 26, 2012 10:58pm
Gareth Barry has emerged as an injury concern for Euro 2012 after hobbling off during England's 1-0 victory over Norway in Oslo.Roy Hodgson was relieved to pick up a win in his first game in charge thanks to Ashley Young's early solo effort.
But he admitted to being worried by Barry's fitness with the Manchester City midfielder having to be substituted despite only entering the fray himself at the interval.
Hodgson told Sky Sports: "It's concerning because he did definitely feel that something happened in his groin.
"It will take a scan for us to really know if it's serious or not.
"We'll have to have that scan very quickly because we don't have the time.
"On Tuesday we have to name the final 23 and I need to be at least reasonably sure, if it is an injury, it will be one that clears up fairly quickly and not one that will drag on during the opening games of the European Championships.
If Barry is unable to recover in time it could provide an opportunity for Jordan Henderson, who replaced the former Aston Villa man in Oslo and is already on England's list of standby players.
